Okay people, give me some tips here! I'm a website designer, and I'm building my portfolio. Now, when I design for clients my creativity flows, but now, I'm just kinda stuck... I'm a perfectionist... and nothing I come up with seems to be perfect! See, I design these highly professional 2.0 designs only when I HAVE to! Cause, I don't really like doing them. I like using my creativity and stuff to create creative designs, and my true passion is celebrity & fansite designs. Now, I know the biggest market is web 2.0, and I really don't want to show anyone away who needs a web 2.0 design, because that's the quickest to find jobs for because people who pay you for celebrity & fansite designs, or just anything creative, are totally rare! So, the problem is, that I need something with a touch of web 2.0... not way too creative so people who needs web 2.0 designs would leave once the site opens... but it needs to be creative enough so when someone who needs a celebrity type, or artistic type site, enters my portfolio... they would go "this is perfect!" even before taking a look at my designs. Cause I want to try atract these kinda clients as much as possible. So, any tips/suggestions? Have any links I can check out for inspiration? So, I can get an idea of what would be perfect? I've trashed like 3 designs so far, cause either its too tight and professional or it's too creative... or too colorful... or it lacks something. Tips would be appreciated, got a bit of a block today!
just trust your instincts friend.. I would make it creative, because a portfilo should show all of your talents... so just make a 2.0 layout and make use of your creativeness in other ways.. like mabey the below the footer go nuts, but keep everything tight up top.. i dont know buddy.. but a portfolio should be YOU.. ive seen some really cool flash portfolios... and some nice XHTML ONES>.. I like to see them work together.
