People say that posting comments on do follow blogs is a good way to build links. What is the purpose of this? Is it to build pr and/or get pages spidered? In terms of traffic, for a month I did genuinely post comments on do follow blogs. I got a lot of links but in terms of traffic from readers of those other blogs, it was almost nothing. Fast forward to today, a few months later, I don't get any traffic from those blog links and think the whole exercise was a waste of time.
good way to find do-follow blogs, amongst the ideas given was one so simple and effective that we were both amazed that neither of us had thought of it before. The easiest way to currently identify a blog that has do-follow links in their comments is the presence of “U Comment, I Followâ€.
You may not get a direct traffic from those sites which you've commented on. But the effect is that your site will have an increase of popularity in the eyes of the search engine. Your traffic comes mainly from search engine.
I agree with Bohol and you can still get backlinks from directory submissions and through forum posting with the help of signatures.
the more that your site is out there on the net the greater chance a customer will see something and buy. Its not a home run everytime
I have had success boosting the rankings for a newer site through blog commenting. I used my keyword as my name, which then became my anchor text and an inbound link back to the site. This was done on DoFollow blogs within the same sports related niche as mine. It only took a few dozen links from good dofollow blogs to get the site to the first page of Google for my target keyword. The keyword had medium competition but it worked and the client was very happy. Selecting only dofollow blogs withing my niche seemed to work. I don't know if it would have worked as well if I had been commenting on entertainment blogs rather than my sportinig niche. I also had to seek out dofollow blogs and forums that didn't block my comments because of the keyword title. I also made sure that I left really good comments as my keyword name was somewhat borderline spammy, and they were mostly approved because most blog owners are happy to let a really good comment through. I think people do also do this to get their site spidered more but I think there's better ways to go about that. For me, it's about building links with keyword anchor text. I haven't seen very much traffic from comments either. Social bookmarking sites have been much better at sending traffic. Like EricJ said, it's not a home run every time, but building more roads leading back to your site can be helpful. It all begins to add up after awhile. As you've seen though, sometimes there are better ways to spend your time, such as generating good content. There's people who have left literally thousands of blog comments and seen very little results for their efforts. Every site is a little different.
The main purpose for leaving comments on dofollow blogs is to help you increase your rankings in the SERPs. You shouldn't expect too much traffic from these sites. However, if you're posting on a dofollow forum (like DP) and you have your links in your signature and have a lot of comments. Chances are you're getting some traffic from these posts. I've read that some people on here are claiming to get 100+ hits/day from forum posts. Bottomline is that every backlink (with your anchor text) does help in one way or another. Don't devote your entire time to commenting but incorporate other link-building techniques. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting frustrated and give up. Use your time effectively and have a schedule in place. Hope that helps!
When you are posting in dofollow blog what you got is short term traffic long term backlink. If it a good blog the page can reach high PR after sometime. In that case if you want something of GRQ type of building link maybe you will find it a waste of time.
I have a blog on gadgets. Recent I started to join discussions at apple.com. The google search has increased 50% over the past week, most of traffic increase was on iPhone 3G which I talked about on apple.com.
The main purpose is to build backlinks, in order to rank higher in the search engines, in order to get traffic from search engines. My dofollow blog search engine helps you to find dofollow blogs to comment on, to help you to build more backlinks, and to rise up higher in the Google SERPs
I've heard that although nofollow links have their obvious drawbacks that they still play a small role regarding anchor text and key words for SERP's. This could be useless dribble but what the heck, if you are going to comment make it as useful as possible.
That's a good point but if you intend on getting quality backlinks the real thing to do is stay niche dynamic.
Good info. I like the fact that the point about not necessarily driving traffic, but building link popularity was brought up. This is an important distinction. If your site has good link popularity it'll help to get that many more visitors from searches rather than direct referral traffic from other sites.
You may also increase Keyword density, if instead of name keywords are used, wherever possible. Not all but few allow that to use keyword instead of your actual name or nick name. This should increase your google search rankings.
