Building Links

I, like many of you, am trying to build a successfull site and want to start building links.
I already have about 200 backlinks already that are all based on my manual efforts - posting here, ezine, facebook, digg, etc - and I am looking to take it to the next step.

For example, is it worth buying 1 anchored text link to a PR3 or higher site (and might not even bring me traffic) for say $10 a month - or do you guys think it is better to actually find a link broker/builder and buy about 50 or so quality backlinks for about $100???

My dilemma is this - I dont want to spend $10 per link, only to get 10 backlinks for $100 when I can try to find a reputable broker that will give me more links, that will look natural, adsense safe, and wont have any negative consequences...

Does anyone here have any experience with this? is there any site you can recommend for a safe way to build links that wont have a negative impact - and NO I'm NOT looking for someone who says "get 1,000 backlinks for $10" <- this is exactly what I dont want.

    Thanks!

Do it manually, of course a link builder is more better than paid one.

I am looking into this as well for 2 hosting companies I work with for marketing and SEO purposes. The main thing I been treading lightly with is any automatic method and any link farm/off topic links. As we are advertising web hosting we do not want to appear to be spammy. i guess it depends what your site is about and how you go about doing it. So Im right here with you in finding the best ways to do this without appearing spammy or getting penalized. I still have not been able to find any sure fire rules on search engines related to this subject.

I think manual way is the best, as it has low chance of negative effects..in automatic method there is possibility of defects which may cause loss ..so in manual there is low chances of problems
