Building links to your articles: Question

I find that TONS of my articles I've sent out have yet to be cached (they are in the hundreds). Any methods anyone has tried on how to get them cached? Something automated and easy-ish.

When you say cached, I'm assuming you mean indexed because I can't think of too many extreme advantages to having google cache your page (other than faster loading).

Also, are we talking about articles on your site, or articles you sent to ezine etc?

::::: For Articles on Your Website :::::
The best way to get them indexed, is to ensure the navigation on your site can ultimately get you everywhere, from any page. If you don't have a navigation system that lets you get to Article Z from article A (perhaps by clicking on categories and then clicking on the pages of articles), then you need to set it up so there is a way for google's crawl to do that.

Another way easy way is to cross-reference content inside the content of your posts. Find relevant reasons to link to other stories, as this will not only get those other stories indexed if that page is picked up by google, but it will also get every link on that other page indexed as well, and so on. Using a related stories plugin makes this easier (if you are using a blog).

Make a sitemap if you don't have one (I know this is basic, but I don't really have much to go on as to what you've already done or not), then use Google Webmaster Tools to submit it directly to google.

Social bookmarking will also help you get indexed quickly. Go through all of the pages and bookmark them on social sites like Digg, StumbleUpon etc... If google comes across any of these links on those big bookmarking sites, they will inevitably be lead to index your pages.

Contact news-style blogs about related stories / pages on your site. There are lots of sites that publish content about a particular topic, and if you have a good page that is relevant to them, they may see it as an easy opportunity to produce news and link back to you.

::::: For Articles on Ezine, etc. :::::
The bookmarking advice, as well as the news or resource-style blog advice is probably your best bet. Contact blogs that might have a great interest in your article, and tell them you just wrote it for ezine and thought it would be a fantastic fit for their site. Also, use Twitter. A good article can spread like wild fire on Twitter, and while this isn't a direct backlink, it can certainly create some for you. Eyes create links, so focus on getting eyes.

You can do social bookmarking for your articles. It will help you to get traffic & backlinks for your article. You can also promote your article with social networking sites for getting visitors...

Build some backlinks to every article. Make a twitter account and tweet your articlelinks. Put around 100 article links into a RSS Feed and ping that feed. Bookmark each article, the rss feed and your twitter account. It should take long to get most of your articles indexed by google.

    Hope this answers your question.

Is there is bookmarking software or service you'd recommend? Each article I send out, there are around 400 of the links are not indexed. I'd like to automate it. Also, any suggestions for RRS feeds? Once I create a feed, would you suggest I send it to some RRS feed directories?

If you want to get your article indexed in Google, you could try manually submitting the URL for indexing.

You do article marketing in order to gain greater visibility for your websites.

In my opinion, it's a waste of time to do all but the most quick-and-easy promotion of your articles published on other websites. The whole point of article marketing is to publish on a website with more authority, more traffic, and more pagerank than your own. If you're bending over backwards to try to generate links to your articles, you're wasting your time -- those links should be leading directly to content on your own website.

I publish prolifically on article directories and other websites, and I share and link to these articles on twitter, facebook, forums, sometimes squidoo, and other sites (like blog comments) when relevant and easy to do so. But I see good results from my articles even when I don't do this. The good articles promote themselves--people share them and link to them. But if I'm feeling tempted to link a lot to an article, I write a similar (and better) article on my own website. Always keep the best content on your site!

If your articles aren't getting indexed or cached in google, it's probably one of several problems:

    • Maybe you're publishing on a third-rate article directory. Only go with the best (EzineArticles, Buzzle, etc.) and don't waste your time on other ones. Test an article directory with 4-5 unique articles, and if it doesn't perform, don't waste time publishing anything else there.
    • Maybe you are publishing too much duplicate content. Google doesn't like duplicate content. It's one thing when you're linking back to the source article, but if you publish on directories that don't do this, it might be harming you. Publish each article on one and only one directory.
    • Have you checked to see if there's something spammy looking about your articles? Google can detect articles that look like they're stuffed with keywords, or spun articles, and will generally avoid caching them and will be less inclined to index them or make them rank highly. I like EzineArticles because its strict and automated editorial policies will help you from accidentally stuffing the article with keywords (it's tough to avoid if you are writing on some topics).
I publish each article uniquely, on only one directory, and I stick with the best, most of my stuff goes on EzineArticles and Buzzle. I see outstanding results: I have many articles with pagerank 2, without promoting them, and they have driven substantial amounts of traffic to my site and continue to drive traffic month after month, and I've only published them on one site. You can check my EzineArticles author bio or my Buzzle author page if you're curious to see how I use these sites.

Just a few thoughts! Good luck! It can be frustrating when stuff doesn't work the way you want, but with discipline and patience you will be able to make it work.

You can also publish them on your twitter and facebook account. Other than that, put them on your social bookmarking profile. If you would like to automate them create system that generates rss feed and add that rss to social bookmarking account. That should automate the whole thing.

Interesting.. I didn't know you can feed an rss to a social media bookmarking account. Do they accept the XML file or do they require a URL?

I would certainly do some social bookmarking. I suggest you try Pingomatic and Social marker. Both are great.

Well how do I get away with submitting thousands of them a day? Would I not get banned?
