Building links for the #1 position on MSN

Note that this article is only about link building for MSN.

MSN is pretty good starting point for link building.

The reason being MSN picks up backlinks and updates rankings and inbound links more often than most other search engines.

MSN will give you a pretty good idea if you are on the right track for getting the #1 on Yahoo and Google further down the road.

Despite only having 40 million searches per month. MSN can send you alot of traffic if you hit the right keywords.

Here's how to build links for the #1. position on MSN:

    BIG NOTE: AVIOD SPAMMING

#1. Use an optimized Anchor text.

#2. Post links wherever you can. Forums and blogs are some of the best places to post a link for off site SEO. They are always free to use. Look up blogs with the same keyword as you are optimizing for.
Note that you are contributing content to those sites not just dropping links. Links drops are not welcome but free content is.

#3. Submit your site to as many web directories as possible. Once again use an optimized anchor text. Also submit as many pages as many pages of your site to each appropriate category in any web directory you submit where you submit your site.

    #4. Repeat as needed.

I have a site that is 4 weeks old, and shot more ot less to the top of a very very cpmpetitive key phrase. I did't spam, but i have exchanged several hundred links and a lot of 1 way. I have been recently removed from the top i guess as a spammer, this is mad. Just trying to get out of sandboxG
Some of the other pages are 10 and 11, but still hurts pride. But how do you avoid spamming? After all won't MS pick up any URL.
I can see your point as MS Search had abot 15% of the search results for the top 300.

    What did I do wrong?
Another site that I just inherited has gone to #7 for the keyword after I optomised the site with no backlinks after 24 hrs.
It is too easy to tweak if you know the densitys, but then you get struck off!
    Sigh!

Regarding point 3, how do you submit individual pages to directories? Nearly all directories only accept the top level domain.

If you submit a bunch of individual pages to either of my directories, I'll delete them all along with your homepage too. That annoys me.

In order to get to the first spot on msn

    1) Have your keywords in your domain name
    2) Increase your keyword density to around 4% in the body
    3) Have your keywords in bold, title, h1

Then you only need one link just so msn could find your website. Done!

Obviously this only works with reasonable competition. Im ranked 1st on msn for quite a few keywords and the traffic i get is minimal.

    Ugh link vault.

That statement is misleading and false. I don't think I really need to explain why.

I really mean these comments as fluid guildlines and not unbreakable laws of the physical world.

Likely a few of the other sites picked up some backlinks recently as well and bumped you down. Just keep writing content and posting links and you will have it again soon. I won't make my answer that simple, there are some other variables.

Check the competition's backlinks and get more than they have.

Post your site details and keywords :D

I don't think it is misleading. I have worked for a year before on a few keyphrases on Google, I've almost always got MSN, then Yahoo, then Google.
You have to remember that Google has an age filter or something like that that makes your site not get picked up for keywords until it is like 3 months old or more. So when you get a grip of backlinks all at once Google is going to keep resandboxing you where MSN won't. Google will eventually pick up your site.

Note that this technique doens't work for Google you have to do alot of other stuff to get ranked on Google that's not really within the scope of my article.

I mean get listed wherever you can. Some directories will let you submit multiple pages to multiple categories.

I'm saying avoid spamming becuase your comments and links with just get deleted. Also spamming doesn't fit into my code of ethics. I don't like it when people drop links in my forum or blog that have nothing to do with the post. I might let a relevant link slide though.

None of that stuff is required.

What do you mean nearly all?

Submit your site to as many categories as you can. If the site only allows one submission per person just submit one page.

Here's a list of web directories
