I have a question on content. I know updating content is important as I have viewed several threads here on that. I just want to know if my index.html page is not changing much, but the website content is i.e. adding new pages of content or changing content on internal pages, will this be OK. Or does my index page need constant change/new content?
Hi, It's fine for the main index page not to update often, because when your page is indexed by the search engines, they follow through to all pages on your site that can be accessed anyway, and your pages with the new content will be found and indexed accordingly. Overall if your adding decent quality content on a regular basis, your giving yourself every chance to succeed. Of course there are lots of other things you can do to help, one way links to your web-site from other sites in your particular (or a related) niche, submitting content to article directories with links back to your individual pages. These are two quick strategies off the top of my head, there are many, many, more Check out some of the newer web 2.0 sites such as squidoo.com, my testing is showing it's possible to get into the first page of google search engine results within just a few days for particular keywords (obviously you would link back to your site from this). Your goal should be to try and become the definitive site for your particular niche market. Doing so will ultimately get you some great page rank and great positioning within the search engines, and lots of traffic as well. Cheers Tim Buchalka
Thanks Tim. My sites are bass fishing related as you can see in my signature. I'm trying to be the authority on Florida Bass Lakes and Bass Fishing tips for Florida Bass. Lots of pros out there in the world, but I don't think any of them work too much on websites. I'll keep chugging along with content, blogs, links etc to try to increase my SERP's. I'm attempting to make income through affiliates and adsense, but I got to get more traffic. Thanks for your comments.
its good to have a feed of your news (something like "latest pages", "latest news") on your index that changes more often... Hope it helps
Thanks for the tip Nima. I just submitted an RSS feed on my floridabassfishing website for Tip of the Week. Of course, a whole new learning experience for me. I also have an RSS feed from ESPN for bass fishing on all 3 of my sites. My next venture is to get a feed submitted for my lake website, then onto my eBay fishing website. Lots of work still to do and probably will be for quite a while.
