It seems that some of my sites have developed a nice amount of back links without having actually tried. I am curious, what are the hazards of exchanging links. And how does one actually try to get back links. Sorry, i know that this information can be found within this forum - but I have been searching and have only found vauge answers at best. There really aren't any hazards. Google might try to penalize you or devalue you, but I have experienced neither. I would say that it is fairly safe to exchange links with relevant and legitimate sites.
as long you dont over due it, you will not get in trouble, link exchange is still a good tool out there. Remember to check who you link to with time.
If you got many of those backlinks from webmasters linking to you, then that is excellent. Build a Website with excellent content, and the backlinks will follow. That's about as organic as it gets. Keep up the good work!
Link exchanging is fine but not really the main method of how people get links. If you have good unique content and promote the content at a steady rate people will catch on and the the links will grow on its own. Of coarse you will still have to keep working to keep it going.
exchanging links can harm your site if you're exchanging links with unrelated sites and bad neighborhood.
Very well said. I have to say, I'm impressed that you just found you had gotten a number of BL's in a surprised fashion. I am finding that my experience is the other way around. I am attempting my best to get BL's but they take much longer than expected. - So good job!
Thanks for all of the input- I'll keep blogging and doing all of the things that have gotten me this far. I have learned more about SEO and building a better web presence in one week here than I have in 9 years of making websites. Digital Point is a great resource! Michael S. I personally feel that there aren't any hazards of link exchange as such but its just that Google gives less weightage or value to such link so in turn you will have to work harder to achieve higher rankings and gather more number of links if you are simply going along with link exchange strategy. Whereas if you get one way links then they are the best links and compared to link exchange links you need less amount of links to achieve the same ranking. So one way links are easier way to get yourself ranked. But ya there are no hazards of link exchange. And in my opinion they are not devalued atleast i havent experienced anything like that its just that they are given less importance than the other links. Stick to great content and you wont be having much problem.
