Building an online board game - Where do I start?

    Greetings,

    I am interested in building something like an online board game like monopoly. What type of programming is normally required for game development? JavaScript, Flash, something else?

    Also, I would be interested in building an online poker room like pokerstars. What type of programming is used for Pokerstars?

    If I wanted to build a game that you need to download into your computer in order to play online (like pokerstars), what type of programming is used for that?
