Yeah a huge +1 for Wordpress. Will just suit your requirement plus will let you have fun with your website [won't feel like you are managing a large shipping corporation ;)]

I would choose Joomla as platform. If you're looking for professional Joomla templates, just look around at joomlart.com and rockettheme.com.

if you are concerned with look, you should choose joomla there are great many joomla templates both free and paid to suite your requirements. if you do not want to spend much time in learning the cms, wordpress is better but as you questioned by default it will give you a blog look and you have to work a bit to change that. if you have time and patience and looking for clean codes with good scalability, go for drupal.

I'll definitely go with wordpress, its easy, great for SEO and highly customizable.
on the other hand if your websites is too much complex and need a perfect portal CMS, Then go for Joomla.

I prefer Joomla for travel sites over blogs any day, unless you want it to look like a travelog of course. The main problem I have with blogs is they're out of date real quick unless you keep adding to them all the time. With Joomla, for instance, you can easily make an informational site and not include 'news' so it's just there for people to read - then you make new pages in different categories as and when you feel like it/buy new articles, like you're expanding on a travel guide book.

while wordpress is the way to go, there are a lot of contenders to deal with. You should weigh your site.

    1. Does It Need to provide a splash page with details and pages (and maybe a blog?)
    2. Will there be a lot of user interaction, would you like place in a user stats, profiles etc.?
    3. How much time you got?

    Answer this and think.......
    Done Thinking?
If no#1 is a must then you go to wordpress anyday (simplest editing, maximum power)
if no#2 is a must then joomla has some serious support.
however no#3 is different is you little time then cut your losses and go to wordpress, if you have good time (at least about 3-4 hours a day) then check joomla.

Joomla has a bit of a learning curve, so have fun!

All you have to do is edit the theme in which you use. Its a bit of a process but it shouldn't take long. A few lines of code has to be replaced, tested, viewed as someone else (to see if you like it), then repeated until you have that perfection look. Sound complex?

Hit me a pm or reply for some help.

But all you have to do is edit the index.php and single.php and you should be set.

Harry, sunshine.co. uk, which is a travel site, is powered by WordPress. Even more impressive is that they have WP plugins that their affiliates can use to promote their product. You can learn a thing or two just by visitng their site; it doesn't have the feel of a blog at all.

understand this, sunshine was done by paid professionals, with a paid theme and paid plugins, there's a lot of things you can learn yes, but a free site can only really begin to match this, unless you're a freaking god behind code. If that's the case start selling you talent and make big money.
