Building a PR6+ Directory

I have built various content related websites, yet effective in promoting them. But when it comes to building and marketing a web directory (general), things aren't the same because we arent dealing with nich content anymore.

I have seen you guys easily rank about PR5+ with your directory. No matter how hard i try with my sites in link building, i get the maximum of PR 2 here, not anything more. Am i missing something here?

What are effective steps and tips for building a PR6+ directory? Has anyone been successful in building a directory attaining PR6+ before within a short time??

If you are just wanting PR then a directory is no different to any other site. You need to build as many links as possible.

The only problem you have is that few people want to link to a web directory.

    dmoz.org, pr9
    dir.yahoo.com, pr9
    uncoverthenet.com, pr8
    site-sift.com, pr7
    botw.org, pr7
    thisisouryear.com, pr6
    haabaa.com, pr6
    business.com/directory, pr6
    smittyzweb.com, pr6
    ezilon.com, pr6
    joeant.com, pr6
    dirspace.com, pr6

and the list goes on and on.. So there are lots of higher pagerank directories..

Just work and work on your directory project, it takes at least a year.

Yes. But that is not what you want to do. Anything with value takes time to build. Buying your way to some quick PR is a sure fire way to make your directory short-lived. LOTS of time and hard work is what it takes to make it happen.

Real PR (as opposed to toolbar PR) is actually a logarithmic scale.

So, assuming the log is base 10, a PR3 site has 10 times as much link weight as a PR2 and a PR6 has 1000 times as much as a PR3.

Build as many as links. Link building is hard but you have to build links. Build arround 300-400 links over 3 months and be sure you'll get fruitful results.

And also buying sitewide textlink to your directory. To get a PR6 is not hard, i got PR 5 for my web directory easily.

If you just want to get a decent PR 6 , try find a site with home page PR 7 and internal page with pr 6 or 5 (not 2 or 3, when you click link on the homepage) and with lots of pages. then buy a few site wide textlink from PR 6site and also try to submit to as many directory as you can. Sitewide from PR 5 and 4 site can forget it unless it is real cheap because it may become a PR 6 site.(example: $10 per month, with backlink more than 50k from yahoo).

Homepage try not to link to other website as it will lower the PR.

    Hopes that help.

He probably means that sitwide links are so very passe, so very 2001.

"So, assuming the log is base 10, a PR3 site has 10 times as much link weight as a PR2 and a PR6 has 1000 times as much as a PR3."
If I remember correctly the log is generally accepted to be base 6.

a... i dont quite understand. But anyway, it is the webmaster who can determine which link to buy from. if you know which link worth buying, it will bring you good, but if anyhow buy... see high PR just buy it will only be a waste of money.

I have gotten a PR 6 on a general directory that was about 5 weeks old.
It just has to do with links.

However, on the 4/4 PR update there seem to be a change to the PR algo so I am not sure if it only has to do with links anymore.

Anyway, IMO general dirs are crap - people use Google. Make a niche dir instead and provide a valuable resource for visitors.

I understand what you mean now.

I think that the last update is a real funny update, i saw some site without real content and become a PR 8 site. I was surprise, it will change in the next update. I belived.... hehe .... maybe i am right but only google know ....

well, based on my directories building(I have about 10 of them) experience its more chances to get +6PR if you will build a niche directory, not a general as dmoz.

make some research, find free niched and try to aggregate some content for directory.

I`ve made a directory which becomes 6PR for the one month only.
