I think we are closing in on 40% hispanic here in Vegas. I know we have a large illegal population.

I'm guessing the minutemen want to get people from here to volunteer to take trips to CA and AZ, since we are somewhat close.

Then we'll be building the next fence across the Canadian border, yes? And how much will that cost us to build. And how much will that cost us to man?

Because you may keep the flow of Mexicans down, you may even halt it, at the cost of the absolute alienation of 14% of the American CITIZENSHIP. But "drugs... and bad people..." (do you not realize how prejudiced this sounds????) will always find there place in the American society.

You should understand, try and concentrate on the fact (especially when considering latin folks who ACTUALLY WORK FOR A LIVING) that the devil you know may be better than the devil you don't.

Incidentally, I extracted your word: "bombs" from your quote for obvious reasons. Not the least of which is that it is not germane to the discussion as no bomb has ever (to my knowledge) come acorss the ol Rio Grande. The only terrorist attacks that I am aware of in recent decades here on our soil were generated from within our borders, and to suggest otherwise is unworthy of serious consideration and is better known as "hype." May it always remain so.

I'm not an expert, but I'm willing to bet it would have cost a lot less than the failure we call the Iraq war

Prejudiced to who? "Find their place in society"? Criminals have no place in society.

The only way to prevent terrorists from coming to the united states and attacking us are to secure entry. Leaving borders wide open for osama's pals to walk across (you forget the LIVE in the desert?) freely into the country is stupid.

To me... the fence isn't an option... it's a must.

The bottom line is it's a security issue. How sad is it one of the greatest nations on Earth has places where people can just walk across the border. You think this is an issue now??? Think about how bad it will be 10 years down the line... it's getting worse every year.

$900 per foot of fence is a bit much... so let's break that down to sq. feet. The fence would need to be like 15 feet high... made out of concrete and a few feet thick. So it would be about 30 sq. feet of concrete per foot of wall. Let's say $4 per sq. foot for concert... that's $120.00. Then you need to have the installers... so add another $80.00 per foot of fence and we are still under $200.00. Plus my est. are inflated a bit.
**Should we bid of the job???

sure, but bid it at $700 and then sub it out and just take the profit and not do the work - oh, ya, I get half the profit for the idea.

And the people who are going to build this fence would be?
The majority of construction, or pretty much any repair workers, at least in my area right now, are mexicans themselves. I'd like to see them rack up enough workers to build that, since I'm sure most of the mexicans probably aren't in favor of it.
I walk around my apartment in Louisiana, since even a year after Katrina, and see the overwhelming population of Mexicans working on the apartments. I see maybe 1 or 2 others who are not mexican who are working there, and those 1 or 2 are forced to learn spanish since all their co-workers are spanish.

Sorry I don't believe it will get done.
I don't mean to sound racist in this post in any way, but its a fact in my area, and it's a fact wherever the construction work needs to be done.
I can picture them having the illegals build the fence, then once its built just tell them they need to leave. I agree the fence needs to be built, but I doubt its ever going to happen.

I read or heard on the radio somewhere that the type of fence it would be would be similar to the soundproof barriers that they use on highways and just cost would be a great deal less. could be wrong, probably am.

That was part of my point of starting the thread -the cost is way over what it should be.

But this is how our government works, now even the republicans are huge pork spenders and are just as bad as their democrat counterparts. I say put bars around them and just lock them all up.

    mmmmm...one of my pet peeves.

Mexicans are not a race of people.

Racist/racism is the most ridiculously overused terms.

If Mexicans can build something good for cheaper why is that an insult? The Japanese took over the auto industry in the 80s/90s by doing just that. If I said "outsource your car manufacturing to the Japanese, they can do it cheaper" is that racist? No it implies they could do the job for less.
