Building a directory

Rather than developing a links page, I'm interested in building a directory on my Deep Mind site...I'm hoping that when I can get it up and running it will encourage more reciprocal linking.

I use php. What scripts would people recommend for managing a directory? I would like people to submit category suggests and to be able to make it a requirement that people reciprocate links, or at least give those that do a higher listing.

That looks like the sort of layout I want to play with, but I cannot get to the authors site to download... any ideas?

I looked at that one but I'm cautious... I read on one of the reviews that it gives the author a back door to your server, and contacts the author with information when you install it?

Beware nearly all scripts need some expansion to cover title and meta tags as this is never properly addressed.
Renaming of standard vars to ease later mod_rewrite is also advisable.

Quite true. It does have a backdoor, and it does call an invisible gif off the authors server (thereby identifying with referrer, where it's being installed).

Actually, I'd recommend this one too. I've used it myself on occasion, and have no complaints at all.

Another alternative is: Jade it'll do what you want and then some
