Executive Summary: How are these hundreds of telecom and dish network sites creating these 100k "state, city" links in their websites?

    Hey guys,

I'm interested in creating location grids much like the ones at the bottom of the following webpages. Any guidance you could offer in how people are doing this would really help me out. I've tried to do my research first and have been frivously going through search. I learned that they are using mod rewrite, searched there... thought it might be part of a cms searched here. There are thousands and thousands of sites using this grid and I imagine something is already out there but I cannot for the life of me find it!

Basically I want to know what people are using or how they are creating sites with these location grids. You can click state, and then you click any city. Each city and state is in the url and can also be entered into the content in the page.

Here are some links showing examples of what I'd like to do, be sure to check the bottom of the pages and click on a state. You can then see a listing of cities and also click any city.

Could be a database, or even done page by page - though that's a lot of work.

Lists of states and cities are available online, just do a search and you should find stuff. There are structured databases around for sale too (don't have any links, sorry)

Creating a simple MySQL database and a little php would not be difficult for a developer to create this kind of structure, just a couple of hours work for something with little complexity.

Probably custom code yes. Maybe a commercial version of this exists somewhere, but I wouldn't know about it.

From what I've seen on these pages there is lots and lots of duplicate content. For example all cities have the same content only the keywords are changed (Dish Network Missouri - Dish Network MO | was changed to | Dish Network New York - Dish Network NY). The same goes for the state articles, only state keywords have been added to the appropriate article/category.

Learn and note what exactly you want then post a thread at the buy, sell, trade forum. I'm sure someone will create this for you for a $100 - $300 bucks.

Or you could also try your luck and send an email to the webmasters of these websites and see if they tell you more or even sell that script.

P.S. Maybe these guys who offer an affiliate program have something like that pre-made.

It has to be Database Driven, otherwise to update 1 thing on those pages would be a nightmare.
