I'm new to this.. so I just need my url field to be my domain and I post a regular text only message and that gets me a back link, or do I need to post a link in my comment text at the footer or end?

    Thanks!

Leave your comments on the dofollow blogs.. make sure you fill in the URL field. That should give you 1 backlink. I don't suggest you to link to your blog on your comment, you'll just risk it being treated a spam comment.

Be careful. Google anonymously frequents forums like dp and now by openly posting those instead of PMing them that means Google also has those lists. What that means is that links from websites like that won't help like you thought and Google will effectively search them for spam and smack the spammers. So be wise and be sure to use non spammy comments and READ the threads you are commenting on before you post so you can contribute effectively and not be labeled as a spammer. Also, do not ever place a link in the comment - only in the name, email, url area. Be careful with do follow websites - Google maintains lists of these also just for the purpose of nailing spammers. You do not want a few little harmless spammy comments to forever brand you in Googles complex algorithms as low quality, spam - it can seriously lower your trust score and rankings and can even result in a penalty in the most extreme cases. For more on this check the official Google blog and their rankings discussion board.

I am against spamming myself so i don't advice people to go over my lists of dofollow and spam them. Unfortunately, as no one really know how the Algorithm of Google works, no one can claim authority over it. I'd still stick to the idea that using dofollow blogs and social media to build more backlink is a decent way to boost your ranking and drive more traffic to your blog provided you don't spam. ;)

I heard that Slashdot is a great source of traffic but only when your post gets on top. Unfortunately, Slashdot only focuses on technology. A couple of my posts on blogging hasn't been approved. :(

yes, digg is a DOFOLLOW. That's why you get link juice everytime you or someone submit your posts. :)

thanks for sharing, but from what i see, it must be relate content , then it will link bait,
there is no point if you post real estate website relate comment to some IT blog.
