Actually it's worth submitting to DMOZ. I have a site that was listed in their directory and after it was listed it's status in Google really improved - the high quality backlink can be very helpful. Dan
well, now DMOZ is sorta down or what... is that happening often? can't search in DMOZ last couple of days
Thanks! Now you've heard a 1001 times. If it were me, I would have either stopped listening after 2 times, or I would of found the value in the fact that enough people are saying it.
cuil.com still exsists??? I thought they would have died off as quickly as they arrived. Remeber, we are discussing getting backlinks. Being indexed by SE's is not a backlink. Hover over your listing in a search result...do you see your URL? No, it's a redirect url. It's all about links with "link juice" as well as referring traffic.
It was accidental..... was reaching for the revolver.... missed my mouth and hit the green rep button instead. A warm glow came across the world for half a second...but a lousy shot too. It was sarcasm that was as wasted as the bullet I tried to shoot myself with. This post was as revealing as a caveman saying to another after the campfire has subdued " Hey hairy! Stop poking me with that sharpened stick!"
If google realises you are buying links you will get slapped big times. Getting paid links from spammy sites isnt worth it
Getting Listed in Directories Getting listed in directories like DMOZ and Yahoo is a must because this is a way to get some quality backlinks for free and your site is easily noticed by search engines and potential visitors. Generally inclusion in these directories is free but the drawback is that sometimes you have to wait months before you get listed...or not listed at all. Top directories like DMOZ and Yahoo have strict guidlines when submitting, so follow the rules carefully. Yahoo also has a "pay for review" option that is costly and does not mean you will get listed. I would suggest submitting the free listing first, then wait a few months to see if your site is listed before considering the paid option" I would strongly disagree with directory submissions. Especially since their is no mention of this practice in the Google webmaster guidelines. They have even removed DMOZ. The only real purpose of directories is to manipulate the search engines, thus this is not such a good idea anymore.
i feel you meet a same problem with me , Dmoz have not included your site after you submitted your site to it several months ago. i think that you should check your site why was not included last times before you will submite your site to dmoz next times.
Have you ever considered wikipedia for building links? If you submit an article to wikipedia including a link, it is indexed with rel=nofollow of course. However, sites that gather information from wikipedia for their own wikis often forget about the rel=nofollow tag. It's worth considering this option.
Some nice advise there for any webmasters who have started learning about SEO and how to market their site.
I submitted my site to dmoz and totally forgot I did, I came back 6 months later to see I was listed and it was a nice surprise
What a smart way to get backlink, thanks for sharing that. I submitted my site to DMOZ, for the passed eight months and I have not be listed. I still hope my site will be listed one day.
