I just assume that most people on digital point are trying to figure out ways to make money from their site, so, if you are trying to create a blog and the goal at some point is to monetize it, I suggest the following. 1. Find a paid host -- Stay away from the free hosts and get (pay for) a dedicated one that supports MySQL and PHP. Make sure your host uses Fantastico or has a "one-click" install wizard for your blogging software. Good examples are Dreamhost.com and Bluehost.com. 2. Register your own domain name -- Often time the host you go with offers free domain registration when you host your site with them. 3. Use Wordpress.org -- It is one of if not the best blogging platforms out there and is simple unmatched when you factor in the price... Free.
To add to what bloggerpreneur has written above, You can register your domain with Godaddy, Namecheap, domainsite...there are tons of registers available. Preferably do not buy your domain at the place your host, for transferring it can become a headache later on.
I wouldn't wast my time with blogger. First create a Paypal account. Get yourself arround $15 Go to goddady.com and buy hosting ($8 two months) and domain ($1.99) Visit Wordpress.org download WP Install and you're done.
