Create something viral for your site - doesn't really matter what it is but something related to your sites theme would be a good idea. If it's really good it will get picked up and spread around the net very quickly.

Free photos, or a video or even a game - if it's good people will naturally link to it. Then post it to some top "web 2.0" sites like stubmle etc.

 

You could get that many by posting on my site... might take you a VERY long time tho

...and what is the value of getting multiple backlinks from one site? I know that links from DP seem to be highly valued but I'm not so sure about multi-links from other sites...

 

Send Press releases, articles, submitt your site to directories.

 

try to join link exchange programs of related sites with good pagerank.

I think, if you put your efforts on collecting High PR, relevant links then it will be more helpful for you.
Put focus on Quality, not Quantity.
