Buddypress Community Sites. Do you have one? Like the idea but can't figure it out?

Looking for people that either have buddypress base sites, for those of you who aren't familiar, it's a plugin for wordpress_mu, that turns your site into a social networking platform, that is quite robust in theory. Though it seems, it's never really graduated out of beta stage, and their developers are changing it so much, along with the wordpress_mu merge to Wordpress 3...

So, if there's many more of us out there, I figured we should get together, make a group and work together to get the most out of our social networking sites. Please post here and share your ideas, frustrations, questions, etc.. Or contact me directly if you would like to get involved with a more hands on approach.

Just found this thread. Seems no one is really diving into the new advances with Wordpress.
I am just putting the finishing touches on an MU/Buddypress site (in my sig, Political Community), and there are some kinks, but nothing that can't be overcome.
The biggest issue to me right now is lack of compatible themes, I had to hack the hell out of the one I'm using now...and plug ins are still suspect, a lot of them don't work with the new version of Buddypress.

I think that many, many developers and designers are on it and by the time 3.0 comes out, there will be a lot of options.

Yeah, a pile of wicked new plugins have been released recently. Getting things working a lot better now. Keep getting plagued with broken registration loops though, where it just refreshes the main page all the time. I have a whack of premium templates and plugins, if you're in need of anything I'd be happy to help out with your site. Trying to find some people to kind band together to help each other out, and help save people from having to spend too much money to get their supposedly opensource community projects going.
On the flip side of that, as you clearly are getting a good handle of under the hood, I'm looking to get people able to help out with my site in exchange for whatever I can offer, or some monetary payments depending on the situation/timing.
For those who are in need of more plugins, updated themes, and support with buddypress and WPMU...
If you haven't already checked it out, they have a lot to offer over at WPMUDEV but it's quite expensive. I bought a membership, it's expensive, but they sure do offer you a lot that you can't really find anywhere else, and they are pretty good about supporting their members and updating their stuff.
If you can easily afford the membership, click the link it's a good way to go, starts at $80/mo though, with discounts for prepayments, no refunds.
If you can't afford the membership, but you are trying to get your site going/working better, drop me a line we'll see what we can do to help.

Yeah, I've checked them out. I'm still on the fence about it...I mean, I'm not cheap, but $80 a month is a lot of flippin money a month for something that is just really getting started.

It's not like they are the only game in town, I am sure some of these long time WP designers are going to start stepping up with some killer themes in the near future.
If it turns out down the road that no one in the WP universe is making themes or plug ins, then I may pay the $80 a month, but I just don't see that being the case.

So far I haven't made one of these for a client yet, when I do, maybe I'll reconsider.

Yeah I agree for the most part. It's certainly been worth the money in many ways though. If you're looking for a theme for the latest buddypress release, I can help. I have several free ones, and I am working on developing and getting rights to more, so tell me what kind of theme you're looking for and I can probably get you one cheap.

PM me with some details or examples, or drop me an email. I do have some personal projects coming up and I haven't really seen many Buddypress themes out there...everyone is using the default template..which is probably safe, but I can't do that.
