i've done a lot of writing offline and now wants to start online. any tips on how i should get started? i'm planning to start a blog but i'm really confused where to start? help appreciated.
Well, a blog is indeed a good start. Since you are new to online writing, reading up on SEO writing may also be a good idea. Posting a few articles to article directories will be good, and once you get the hang of it, doing some writing jobs, that can be found here in the BST section. Feel free to check out the resources in my signature also, which should also help.
You have got it all - Attitude, Mentor and Opportunity. Think 'as if' you are a great writer....Use all the opportunities here.....Exploit[sorry about the word]the great mentors here [Eg.dyadvisor, Kraven2.........] to learn something new each day...... Good Luck!
To take your writing to the next level you need to read and read some more. This forum is a never ending learning experience. If you read each thread and take what you learn you can easily start making money right here today. Of course you might want to take a look at some of the articles here. Or even ask for a few samples from some of the writers in BST. You can pose as a buyer if you want. Then compare your writing to theirs. See what they charge. Compare quality and see if you are up to par with them. If so, charge a penny more. I say this because you have already done something that they never have. You asked for help. Your going to be one of the good ones. Good Luck!
Starting your own blog is definitely a great idea. YET, as a writer I started online by joining freelancing sites. SURE, in the beginning it may be extremely difficult to get someone to pay you even a DECENT rate for your work. Especially considering the absurdly large number of third world country freelancers who do it for change. I think getting a few jobs on one, or a number of these sites will get you good online writing experience. HOWEVER, as Kraven suggested, you should know about SEO and writing SEO content articles. I learned a lot from my husband and by reading SEO blogs like SEOmoz. You will also get a lot of information from valuable forums like this one. But, be careful who you listen to. Good luck and welcome to the online writing world.
Yeah you should go first to make your own blog generate some high quality of content promote those articles among leading article directories to obtain enough exposure in Articles Writing Industry! for having free lancing jobs your blog will work to portray your writing standards
Hi I'm also keen to cross over and supplement my income from my online business by pursuing some online opportunities. Apart from a presence on freelancer, what else do I do? And do I grind it out by making almost nothing for an article initially and building a body of work so I have some portfolio behind me? Realistically I have pressing business commitments and a "real" career which I am gently neglecting but still have to put in the hours. Is it a case of daily checking for new jobs and making quotes...
Send a PM to Dyadvisor, he will help you out in ways you can't even begin to understand at this moment. Those pressing business commitments will be in your past so fast it will make your head spin
I make over $4,000/month doing freelance writing, so I think I can offer a few nuggets of advice. 1. Start a blog that showcases your writing skill. Make sure you carefully proofread each post, as potential clients will see them and judge your work based on them. 2. Create a writing portfolio site (or integrate it with your blog). You might list your services, experience and contact info. 3. Join freelance sites and forums (eLance, Guru, Freelancer.com, etc.) and start bidding on projects. 4. Create joint ventures with Webmasters, graphic designers, Web designers, etc. These people typically have a need for content writers to fill the sites they design/manage with content. 5. Apply to established content sites/revenue share sites and start building content there. I'm making about $210/month in revenue share from work I did over a year ago, so once you do the initial work, you continue to see results.
I wish a mod would take those tips and sticky them at the top. In fact do you mind if I repost this on my own board?
Thanks a lot guys! i'm starting to see a somewhat bright future ahead! i'll follow kraven's advise first which is posting at article directories. i was wondering.. if i make a blog should it be niched already or it's fine it is an "anything goes" type? i noticed as i read through dp the vast market blogs have as well.
I would make it a writer blog. That way when you are ready you can use it as your professional writers front, while you still can write whatever you like as the articles will be your samples to show off to your potential clients, which means the more variety the better
My advice is to stay away from Digital Point. Lol, I joke. But, truly, don't try the DP market. DP is huge, some places are full of crap. You are lucky the CopyWriting forum still has some good contributors. Back to the topic, you should build a portfolio. A blog may help, but you can take advantage of your offline writing as proof. Where did you do all your offline writing. Cite resources, give examples, find your target audience and people that need your writing and contact them.
Omarbid: Sometimes we agree, sometimes we do not --- no big deal. But this time I want to congratulate you for laying in on the line, and summing it up. Have a good day
Hahaha, it's life. Everyone has an opinion and what matters is discussion and ideas exchange. Have a nice journey
really appreciate the replies guys. i think i'm very lucky to find out about dp. there are lot's of love here. lol
We are blessed to have people like dyadvisor and Kraven are here! Making use of them will help us grow on the way... We are still watching...!
