Buddhism teaches to seek knowledge, have compasssion, sympathy for all creatures, cleansing the heart, fighting the desires..etc Same teachings in Islam.
I'd like to hear that explanation too. Doesn't seem to have much in common at first sight though Hmm, nope, not much at all, no veiled women, no "jihad", no endorsement of pedophilia in Buddhism. I wonder what Buddhism has in common with the unanimously acclaimed religion of peace, Islam </sarcasm> PS: Please don't behead me!!!!!!
I'm no expert on religion let alone Islam but I think a difference between Islam or Christianity and Buddhism is that Buddhism allows for other paths to spirituality. Where as most "religions" see their path as the only one.
People always mistake Buddhism as a religion, Buddhism is NOT a religion. So it can not be compared to any religion.
Webmaster, I would agree with you, from my own practice (when I was practicing - I am now a "backslid" buddhist, as I haven't put my butt to a cushion in quite some time). Still, some of its tenets - its acceptance of karma and rebirth, absent present enlightenment, its presumptions of an almost infinite series of Buddhas, stretching back through kalpas , or nearly infinite time periods, stating that Shakyamuni Buddha, the present, historical buddha, is only one of these; and its proclamation of a future Buddha; the idea of holding off on one's own final enlightenment, the embracing of the bodhisattva's way (this is a tenet of Mahayana Buddhism), until "all sentient beings" have achieved enlightenment - a kind of saint or compassionate deity; all these things presume the supernatural, and thus it is a religion. Particularly in Tibetan or tantric Buddhism, there is a presumption of a whole pantheon of compassionate guides along the way - e.g., "Fudo Myo," and "Kannon" in Japanese zen; "Vajrakumara," "White Tara" in Tibetan buddhism. I find it to be a religion compatible with many other religions, including atheism, and in this, it is rare. But a religion nonetheless.
There is truth in this but the Buddha was very critical of the Hindu system of caste and inequality in general especially for women. When he started taking women and lower cast people as students 2500 years ago there was outrage. The Dalai Lama referes to the chinese as "our friends the enemy". All religeons teach this in some form. greed and ignorance often get in the way.
honestly there is no similarity , NONE the differences are amazing first look at the followers, then look at the principles, then look at the texts
but if no followers follow islam like this, then what does it matter? GM' creates cars for comform , reliability and low price.. but if they are not confortable, not reliable and always break down and cost a lot to fix every month, then IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT THE CAR COMPANY GM ORIGINALLY wanted to be, or provide, or create look at actions, and the reality im sick of hypothetical talk when ppl are dying and terrorism is happening massly everywhere stop being in denial. if you care so much that islam should be followed with compassion then PREACH THAT , instead of preaching that islam is whatever every non-violent religion is
