Ok all you UK residents...what the heck is the point now in turning the clocks back and forth?.......none!
Its a system that is far outdated, so why does it still go on?

I can't think of any reason other than tradition.
It causes chaos every year. I hate it... it's suddenly dark at 4pm and I think to myself: "shit, where's the day gone?"

    BST - British Standard Time.

I don't mind the clicks turning back at 2am, it gives me an hour sleep more.

Daylight savings time is actually pretty crucial in terms of keeping our biological clocks set correctly. Not to mention it saves money and energy.

I am sure why you put in BST either but I am sure you are talking about daylight savings time.

Though I do not like the changes, the point was to provide as much daylight as possible for school children in the morning who are waiting on the school buses and those walking to school. This is the reason it has never stopped.

DST was started to give farmer's longer daylight hours to work. Don't know why they keep it, now that the U.S. is not a primarily agricultural country anymore.

Brithsih Summer Time was done to provide daylight saving. It means more light in winter - otherwise it'd be dark for too many hours. It's supposed to help prevent accidents, car crashes, crime in the dark etc.

Someone also told me that is was about energy savings as well. We'd use less electricity, since most people would be awake in more of the daylight hours or something like that....

But I don't get it... Nobody has ever been able to convince me that there was a good reason for it.

It basically makes more sense for daylight to start at 8 am rather than 7 am. That way its still light at 4 pm and people aren't running around in the dark at 3pm.

More people would use electricity, have car crashes etc if it went dark earlier. Whereas the morning doesn't matter so much.

And of course its nice and light in the summer, hence the reason for putting it an hour ahead of GMT.

Although its almost stupid that GMT - located inside our very country - is not the time used all year round.
