It seems that alot of posts are made in the parent forum http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24 (scroll down) instead of in the relevant subforums. Wouldn't it be better if that forum was closed down so users could only post in the correct subsection? It would result in a better structure and be easier to search.

The problem is not all threads are suitable for the sub-forums. However, if you see a thread that belongs in any of the sub-forums feel free to report it.

Well, perhaps a new subforum titled "Other" should be made. This will stop users from posting on the main forum page on purpose (because they will loose the views) and will result in users more carefully picking their category.

It helps to have one root directory/category for announcements and stickies pertinent to all of buy, sell, trade.

Right, but those are all posts that should be made by moderators. Which means you could limit posting to just moderators in the main forum.

Some threads have no other home. That is pretty much 'Other'. Why bother renaming it.

Because people are posting threads in it that should in fact be in the subforums. Yes, you can report them, but that takes effort from the users doing the reporting and the admins moving the threads. If we can take the motivation away for users to do this, it saves everyone time.

The motivation should be if you put it in the right section, you will get more potential buyers looking for it and it also wouldn't get moved off the main page as quick.

So yeah... if sellers are too stupid to realize this, they are also going to be too stupid to realze the Other section isn't the best place for their thread either. :)

People that are doing it on purpose will just post everything in the busiest forum. Right now, the busiest forum is the root forum. If we closed it (except for announcements/stickies) and created an "Other" forum, then "Other" would be the busiest forum and those people would intentionally put their threads there instead of in the proper sub-forum.

It would be nice if people would just cooperate and not try to cheat the system in the first place. :(

The funniest thing is the busiest forum means they probably will get the *least* views, and certainly the least number of potential buyers for what they are selling.
