If someone does a search for a given keyword, how many pages of the search results do they typically view? Does anyone know? I looked around the net but didn't find an answer. I ask because I have reached page five for one of my two main keywords in google search results, a keyword which google keyword tool says is searched 300 000 times per month. However I have not yet seen an increase in my site traffic.
Hmm I think its something like 95% comes from the first page, I cant be totally sure but it is a lot. Someone can correct me though soon
usually its the first 20 results...desperate person can keep on turning pages...i have gone upto 18-19 pages
Thanks very much for your responses. That's good to hear, and explains why my traffic has yet to increase.
It is rare they go beyond the first page. Even though you can set how many results display on the first page, most leave the default setting at 10.
most often, they search for those on first result page... but very few % those who look at the bottom so its better to be on top.
I would have to say based on my own experience that one would not go beyond the first three result pages. Joseph
Here are some graphs: http://www.shoutmeloud.com/how-google-serp-position-affects-your-blog-traffic.html http://www.redcardinal.ie/google/12-08-2006/clickthrough-analysis-of-aol-datatgz/ However I think it differs from keyword to keyword and from niche to niche
If you aren't on the first page (10 results) you are never going to see any significant traffic. It is much better to be #1 for a semi-competitive keyword than on page 2 for a highly competitive keyword.
the first page gives 90% results and the rest page 2 do. unless search for a specific website or thing, hardly anyone goes beyond page 3, as i guess
If I remember right, 40% of a search's traffic goes to the first result, 25% is split between the second and third results, and the remaining 35% is fair game. They'll only search other pages if the first couple did not contain an answer for their problem or question.
