My brother has a band called broken ride but when I went to register the domain, of course it's parked. I contacted the owner to see if he'll let it expire in May (dumb move on my part) and he wants $500!!

Can I get it for less? Thanks for any help!

    What's your budget?

Send him an offer lower then your budget, and negotiate to your budget. That's about all you can do.

Well it's for my brother and the band and they're the struggling artist type right now so the budget is really low. I was expecting to pay maybe around $100 but I have no idea. I've never bought a parked domain before and I'm the worst haggler in the world. I'll offer him a low number and hope for the best I guess.

That sucks. The domain isn't worth more than reg fee. Maybe $20 the most. Idiot squatters think they can get anything for these domains...

The person knows you need that domains so they will not lower their price. The domain site isn't special in any way.

Maybe you should consider not putting in so much money into a struggling band yet. Once the guys rock out enough and make a major profit you will be able to get this domains that you want.

    I recommend registering brokenrideband.com
    Its probably available

That's a pretty cool name for a band though:)

hahahaha, I totally just sent a pm to Morgansmom saying the exact same thing, register www.brokenrideband.com but I didn't want to post it on here incase someone pulled a fast one and registered it. I really hope that someone won't be that low.

Thanks guys. Yeah I realized I was too hasty in using numbers and specifics with this dude but oh well, I learned. The reason why we wanted the domain is because they just scored a big producer who wants their music on the radio pronto and we'll use the site to keep track of their fan base and to tell them to request their songs on the radio. My dad is band manager and I think he'll actually be the one to pay for it so I'm not quite as concerned about the overall price since he has a bit to throw around compared to my starving brother and his band mates. But either way, I wasn't about to let anyone pay $500 for a parked domain if it wasn't worth more than reg fee.

I'm off to register brokenrideband.com now...If it's gone, MorgansMom will be mad! :p

I don't know, I'm not the owner of the name. ;)

Why don't you make an offer & see what he/she will sell it for?

Or simply secure brokenrideband.com just in case negotiations fall through.

Best wishes for your brother's band!

It'd still be a good name even if the band breaks up--just open a garage.
    (Great name for auto repair.)

Well he came back with $100 after I offered $50...I think I might just tell him I don't want it anymore. I already bought brokenrideband.com thanks to everyone's suggestions :) Maybe I'll wait and see if he lets it expire then snag it for reg fee cause I'm a cheapo.

If your dad has the money, I would ask him to secure the domain. If your brothers band just got a producer, and their music is good, it may just lead to good things. :) The shortest domain for the band would be the most memorable.

    Good luck :)

I had the same thing happen with my band, and we did exactly what GrAveTzT said to do. I thought of it because of a well known band Tool did the same thing. toolband.com. In my case it was tripkitband.com. Its kind of like all the movies now to, it says exactly what you are on top of what your name is! In my opinion, its better that way. :)

Yeah I thought of Tool as an example too...Tool.com could be a site about douchebags or some hammers and drills :)

I'll pay him the $100 and have both though, then just redirect one to the other. Thanks for all the advice by the way. You guys are all awesome!
