Google webmaster tool reports pages in my site take 5.9 seconds to load and is slower than 80% of sites. It looks I need to do some optimization on my scripts. Thanks for sharing,
Is that video link you posted the right one? I watched it and I didn't see any mention of broken links or speed. He talked about other searches like email, calendar, mobile, sms, etc. Unless I missed it I didn't catch any reference to speed or broken links.
Very good points. People need to wake up and realise that in 2010 they are going to have to know the RIGHT information to succeed. Google are making it more and more impossible for someone to rank using the usual tips you read anywhere. You need to do something different and you need to do it well.
well, its only with google what about yahoo and bing? I advice people not to rely only on google. Any opinion?
I wouldn't worry that broken links and site speed would affect my sites rankings, instead i would look at how bad an experience it would be for a visitor if my site loaded slow and the links within it didn't work. The experience for the visitor matters more than whether those things affect rankings. Broken links and site speed have always mattered, overall neither have been acceptable ever. Site speed differs depending on location and many other factors, if im 50 miles from where a site that im visiting is located then its going to be quicker for me than someone thousands of miles away. Depends on types of hosting, whats on the pages, if others are hammering a shared server that you may be on. So if one afternoon a site that is perfectly quick normally, begins to slow down because its getting some heavy usage, this will lead to lower rankings because the pages are currently loading slow? Even though the site is popular and this is the only reason for it being slow sometimes. Sounds like one more thing not to become obsessed with and people should focus on keeping their site in order for the visitors, but will become obsessed with pleasing the search engine first. It makes perfect sense to keep a site fast and without broken links but not do do it because a search engine says it will affect rankings. Will competitors try and slow down each others sites in order to affect them? This announcement seems bizarre. Bring back sites for people.
