Broken Directory Script Owners - Changeover service

    Hi again guys,

The article I wrote on SBD v. PHPLD & eSyndiCat sparked a few more ideas along the same lines.

If you're running a broken directory script, or if you just want a change, Snowblind Development is offering you a deal. We'll change over your directory script for you - copying over the links and categories database so you don't lose any of your data. At the moment we're doing it for a low $35, but this price probably wont last for long - so if you're interested give me an email or a PM right away and secure the offer. [Even if you're just thinking about it].

To read more on this check out http://www.snowblind-development.com/tradein-directory.htm

    Thank you.

Before I say anything I want to say I am in no way affiliated with both PHPLD or Esyndicat scripts. Yes, I have PHPLD related site and I am creating templates for it, but I can create templates for any other script, even your script if I decide to do so. It is just my personal choice.

I just installed your script to check it out. I see there is a potential but you are missing something very important:

You don't have single one template for that script. Default one looks like this
I checked out template system and I find it not easy to change. There are lot of programming in html code and even html elements are generated using print commands. I am sure everything looks simple to you since you are programmer, but it is not easy for me.
Without good looking templates and with no person to convert designs to be used with your script you will not get many people to switch.

I suggest you to keep working on your script and find some designers to join the team before you go after established scripts.
Best of luck with your script and your business.

    agnivo007,

not many will do it publicily, but there will be takers.

    @balkanboy,

    You have a valid point.

PHPLD was also at that stage when it was started. It got picked up by many members who created templates and other stuff which the Script lacked and it became popular.

I have seen SBD script and yes i will agree it does have some limitations at this time.

But unlike other Scripts, Snowblind here listens to his users needs and makes changes as needed.
SBD cannot be compared to present PHPLD as it has some more time to go before we can do that.

SBD is what used to be PHPLD before it became popular.

All it needs is one or two good users and it will be very good :)

And as someone put it in PHPLD,

SBD is patient enough to answer a lot of questions and i dont think he has a "community" who does everything for him - right from modifying the script, giving solutions to various problems, providing support etc..

with PHPLD, its the community who reports a problem and gives a solution themselves while the actual support doesnt answer them.

ok, i am not the only one with such a view

this was posted in phpld forums and i am copying it here

PHPLD is still the most popular directory script, and I think their support is still good compared to others. Perhaps because PHPLD is too popular and widely used, it is difficult to satisfiy all their customers.

    @snowblind1
Other directory script like esyndicat or indexu are offering free database migration, perhaps it would be better to do the same :D
I just download the free version, and I'm sorry that I have to agree with balkanboy, you should separate the core PHP script and the HTML templates, so it will be easier for designer to customize the layout. Reading thousand lines of code mixed between PHP script and the HTML can give us a headache :)

Thank you mentioning that balkanboy - it's actually something I'm working on for the next update. Quite a few users have pointed that out to me =)

I didn't realise eSyndiCat did database migration at all, but when you add up the prices of both of them:
    eSyndiCat: $49
    Indexu: $99
    SBD Script: $15 + $35 = $50

The reason those two scripts can offer database migration free is because their script is a lot more expensive than the SBD Directory Script. There would be no way to offer this service free with a $15 script.

    Cheers for your replies :)

I noticed that as well. Really the only way to modify the template at the moment is to change the .css file, and add some images by making liberal use of the background:url() property in CSS. I'm not unfamiliar with php, but I didn't fancy wading through it all in order to change the layout either.

Yes, both esyndicat and indexu are very expensive :)
But both of them also offer "free lifetime upgrade", so it is only one time cost.

Also, if I compare your script and database migration service with eSyndiCat, then eSyndiCat is cheaper right :D
And with eSyndiCat you'll also get :
    - free lifetime upgrade
    - and 12 nice templates, if not mistaken

That's always been the same with the SBD Directory Script. Updates are offered free of charge - and made easy to install. I guess really in a way our 3.0 release is only a warm-up version. It's got the backend nailed down to a pulp, which as a directory owner I feel is the most important thing for me. In 3.1 I'm working on creating the front-end looks to go with it, and a couple of other features people have come to me personally and requested.
You must spend a fortune on ads. eSyndiCat is everywhere :) I wish I had that kind of budget.

Thank god you at least pay your staff. Probably others that help out too right?

    you're doing yourself some good.

although i've been told phpld has been being heavily advertised, i sure as hell haven't seen it around like i see everything else. (and i get around on the web, believe me)

Can you briefly overview the differences in coding styles between the 1.2 and 2.0? Or maybe just send me both.
