Say you have a main keyword: computers Now, you could go through and find all the computer searches that people are doing like "get low priced computers here" or "model XXXX computer" etc etc, and hopefully you would find some terms will little bids and get them cheap. However, if you simpy enter the keyword "computer" wouldn't you pick up all those little searched terms anyway because of broad match? Or is it best to actually list all the keywords yourself because then you can get the low click cost, and if you use the broad match to get them it will cost you more? Thanks.
You must be a guys from Dell to bid on computers. Are you? That term is way too competitve to bid on. Braod term never work for small business owners. It drive their cost up. Nuttymarketer
There is quite a bit of confusion regarding the broadmatch option. If you have a base keyword like 'computer' on broadmatch it doesn't mean your ad will show for all searches with 'computer' in them. The reason for this is that the Google Adwords system tests your ad against all variations and combinations of search terms with 'computer' and then judges the relavancy of your ad. If your ad performs well (gets clicks) then it deems your listing relevant to that search. This could mean your ad would show for 'pc' or 'buy xyz computer now'. This is also why Adwords has the negative exact keyword option. If you have 'cheap hotel brussels' on broadmatch you would expect to only have your ad show for search combinations that included 'cheap', 'hotel' and 'brussels'. This is however not true. Your ad could also possibly show for a search like 'hotel brussels' if the Adwords system deems your listing relevant to that term. If you found this to be true and you didn't want your ad to show, you would need to use: -[hotel brussels]
You should go with the most specific keywords that apply to get the best ROI. Don't limit yourself to your specific keywords set. You will bid much lower on "cheap computers Rotoroa" then you will on "computers". Google wants to have the ads be relavent to the landing page so they will place you above an ad with the headline that is dynamically generated like "cheap computers Rotoroa at Ebay". I tend to have a lot of keywords and end up with some that end up at #1 and others that might end up at average position of #61. As long as the keywords are relevant, I see no reason not to bid on lots of very specific keywords as well as common keywords.
