LONDON: British forces could hand over responsibility for the southern Iraqi city of Basra as early as next month, a British newspaper reported Sunday. Iraqi forces could take control of the country's second-largest city as soon as October, the Sunday Times said, citing unnamed government sources, amid speculation that Britain will soon announce a major pullout. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/09/01/europe/EU-GEN-Britain-Iraq.php Coalition! What coalition?
In case you didn't notice the british army are holed up in the airport too scared to roam the streets unless they get blown up. So in a way, they have pulled out. They just need to board their planes.
I like the title of this thread: Now compare that to what the story says: could do and actually doing are two different things....
Not only is this better left to use a government source for, you highly misrepresented the article. The article states To say that Britan is going to quit on Iraq isn't even close to the article....
That's not true at all. Remember the scandal in Britian from a couple of years back? Blairgate? The papers got it right then while Downing Street was always quiet about things.
Yup, the final 550 troops in Basra itself have now been 'consolidated' into the main British base at the airport. The British base in Basra Palace has been handed over to the incredibly competent and fully funtioning Iraqi army. Job done, war won. *Dusts hands and walks away whistling*
Its about time. Just a pity they didn't make the same decision for every other country they had previously invaded.
