Hammer, meet nail. Interesting question. I'm always more willing to blame poor performance on incompetence. But the deliberate actions to prevent the cleanup in the Gulf can place it squarely in the realm of deliberate behavior. Let's look at the scroreboard: - Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel may resign after the elections, - Cabinet member White House Budget Chief Orszag just announced he's quitting, - Real unemployment remains at 15% - Obama has no immigration law to propose and no energy strategy, - While Obama is challenging Arizona's law, a town in Nebraska just passed a similar law - General McChrystal is voicing his disgust with the President. - A federal judge just overruled the moratorium on drilling. Looks like Obama simply doesn't have the authority. - There is no end in sight to the gulf oil disaster - Obama dealt with the MMS's incompetence by renaming it, - Although Obama authorized 17,500 National Guard troops to clean up the gulf spill, only 1,630 have been deployed This administration is unraveling.
I wrote this on June 18th. BP kept Tony Hayward on as a punching bag until the well was capped two weeks ago, and today they sacked him. I called it!!!
Well, the stock is now "in play". Buyers are assuming it hit bottom and are buying & selling. It remains to be seen what sort of protection BP's $20 Billion bribe to the Obama administration gets them.
In some post I saw where Corwin connected the Gulf Oil BP Rig explosion and tremendous spillage of oil to the Obama administration and labeled the obama administration a failure. Of course the Right Wingers jumped in. Maybe one of the other right wing supporters said it first. maybe the right wing media machine has been blasting that accusation. Here it is about 100 days after the oil rig explosion. the well has been capped. most of the surface oil has dissapaited. the beaches along the gulf coast are mostly clean There is definitely much still to be determined. Looks like the biggest parts of the problem have been accounted for. Lots of relatively quick solving of this issue. I contrast the work to deal with the gulf oil problem with Afghanistan. Bush oversaw an attack in 2001. In late 2001 Al Quada and the Taliban were routed. Bush claimed early on he wanted bin Laden dead or alive. bin laden escaped when we had him cornered and didn't decide to go after him. 2002. Taliban start coming back a little into Afghanistan. Bush says little. media says little. Situation gets worse. 2003. Taliban start coming back a little more into Afghanistan. bush says little. media says little. Situation gets worse 2004. Taliban start coming back a little more into Afghanistan. Bush says little. media says little. Situation gets worse 2005. Taliban start coming back a little more into Afghanistan. bush says little. media says little. Situation gets worse. 2006. Need I go on. More of the same. situation gets worse 2007. need I go on. More of the same. Situation gets worse. 2008. need I go on. More of the same. Situation gets worse. Its getting real bad now. 2009. Now Obama is president. Afghanistan is pretty damn bad after years of hiding it under the rug by Bush and Republicans. 2010. Afghanistan is a frigging mess. There is something about dealing with problems, there is something about not dealing with problems and there is something about politicizing it with some accusations about ineptitude and policies. Looks to me like the big issues with the Gulf Oil disaster are being dealt with pretty quickly. Looks to me like some former administration swept Afghanistan under the rug for years and years and now we have a much bigger bigger problem; Quit whining.
There is another leaking well in the Gulf - struck by a barge: A pipe burst in Michigan threatening the Great Lakes through the Kalamazoo tributary: 11,000 unattended wells in the Gulf..........etc. etc. This is a moral failing of the corrupted Christian religion that permeates both political parties and is a root cause for Global calamity in disdain for the Garden they fail to heed but for their own selfish motives in derision of the Almighty. .......... At least the Obama administration took control and resolved the issue as best under the circumstances as earlpearl points out.
No. That is a complete misrepresentation of what I wrote. You are not being honest. I cited a loooong ist of problems the Obama administration created and how they were all related to Obama lacking any management experience whatsoever (he didn't even run his own campaign) and how Obama was, in effect, indecisive and afraid to make a decision. Since you started this, I invite you to cite my ORIGINAL post here so we can discuss what I wrote properly and ACCURATELY? Why did you not cite my original post? Or are you too lazy to go get the facts? Maybe that explains the rest of your post. What is Obama's management experience? Nothing to do with Obama. BP capped the well. But do you agree that Obama could have allowed to have the well capped in the first two weeks if he had accepted the Canadian's help (who have experience in capping these wells)? Is it true that the cap that finally capped the well finally came from Canada??? Why was Obama so damned indecisive??? What is Obama's management experience? This is because Obama's Coast Guard forbade any significant use of skimmers and instead BP used chemical dispersants, which only pushed the oil below the surface. Anderson Cooper did a series of amazing and insightful reports on this on CNN. While the surface of the water looks sweet, when they put on toxic scuba gear & went under the water, they saw the oil, still there, hovering just below the surface. What was really sad about it was the complete lack of any fish or marine life whatsoever. That's why the fisherman can't catch anything. What was the purpose of BP's $20 Billion bribe? Was it so Obama's Coast Guard would stop skimmers (which hold the oil & therefore provide a record of how much was recovered) and instead approve the use of toxic, environmentally hazardous chemicals to dissipate and HIDE the oil? This lessens BP's liability at the expense of the good people that live off the Gulf of Mexico's ecosystem, which has now been ripped apart. Dead fish, anyone? All good things! Now, you are referring to 1998 when President Bill Clinton made the decision to let Bin Laden go? Remember the 1993 World Trade Center bombing? Remember all our embassies being bombed from 1994 to 1998? Wrong Wrong WRONG!!! How the hell can you write such intelligent posts in the past, then write completely biased crap like the above? By 2008, U.S. forces had succeeded in controlled most of Afghanistan and were fighting a holding battle. Bullshit. You are referring to the fact that since Obama because President, you had people, including former General McChrystal, complaining in 2008 and 2009 that not only was Obama not making any decisions about Afghanistan, but McChrystal was complaining that he had only spoken to Obama for, oh, what, 15 minutes? And as a result, the Taliban has re-taken most of Afganistan due to Obama's indecisiveness? You just described our current president to a T! Really? How's the economy doing? How's unemployment? Where's immigration reform? Has Gitmo closed by January 2010 like Obama promised? Why have small business taxes gone up? Why has Obama broken his promise and raised taxes on the middle class? Why is Obama's approval rating in a freefall at 43% and dropping like a stone? Why have all major economists, including most G20 nations at the last summit, criticized Obama's out-of-control deficit spending as not only making the U.S. economy worse, but the world economy as well? Pot. Kettle. Black.
The calamity is resolved and the outdated diatribe of the above has with it blown in the wind, finding people with intellects greater than Sara Palin is a suggestion for acquiring success in the midterms. Top kill this weekend then the bottom......I'm sure we are all on board for the final resting.
What good would talking to Obama have done McChrystal? It's not as if Obama could do anything to help. McChrystal might as well have asked Rosie O'Donnell for her views on COIN.
McChrystal was complaining that he had only spoken to Obama for, oh, what, 15 minutes? The Obama Administration is about solving problems not talking about them. Just as the Gulf calamity is being concluded so also are the myriad of other problems left behind by the previous administration being resolved as well - the economy for starters with clear sailing on the horizon.
For reasons unknown, the Obama administration did everything possible to prevent the cleanup of of recent oil spill.
The economy, the oil spill, unemployment, Iraq, Afghanistan, closing Gitmo - what problems have been solved? None of them. It was because of the $20 Billion bribe BP flung at Obama.
That doesn't make sense, because BP would have benefited from a more effective response to the oil spill.
YES, definitely! But only IF they had a containment strategy. If they were able to quickly cap the oil leak, then the damage would have been minimized. But BP did not have the technology to cap the leak - the Canadians did, because they regularly (and deliberately) create leaks and then drill on capping them. But getting that cap was a legal maze in so many ways: BP was legally obligated to follow the containment plan they had on file. To do otherwise would be admitting that they filed an incompetent plan, which would place them at great legal liability. In the meantime, oil continued to gush forth. The law pins their legal liability at the total amount of oil leaked. Skimmers collect the oil and provide a record of how much oil was leaked, so BP convinced Obama to use his Coast Guard (which is corrupt anyway) to get rid of the skimmers. BP repeatedly lied about the amount of oil that was leaking every day. BP used illegal chemical dispersants to force the oil under the sea, hiding the oil and limiting their legal liability. Now we can't see the oil but all the fish are as dead as the Louisiana fishing industry. What is consistent here is BP's pattern of covering up the amount of oil being leaked because that limits their legal liability. So, BP slipped Obama a $20 Billion bribe. Notice that that money is not being administered by the Federal government, but by a private individual. it is somewhat legal for some of that money to find it's way to the bank accounts of Barack Obama as well as many influential members of Congress. It's important to realize that young presidents, while in office, are very much concerned with what they will do AFTER their term is over. BP's $20 Billion is part of that deal. The Presidency carries with it tremendous opportunities to generate obscene wealth. The final crime here is the short-term memory of the average American. Unlike Europeans who have a mind for history, Americans tend to forget things two weeks after they've happened unless they are traumatic (9/11) or affects them personally.
I wonder why we haven't heard anything about an investigation into BP. CNN and PBS did loads of investigative reporting pieces on how BP openly defied government-mandated safety requirements and openly broke the law, including filing a bogus spill recovery plan. Three months later, no investigation can be seen and Obama is letting BP get away with it.
Goldman Sachs also upgraded BP to a buy so they must value it as being undervalued and no where near going bankrupt, I'm also in the stock I have been for a few months and doing very good.
