He will be in jail for a long time I'm sure. They don't look kindly on vandalism or arson or any such thing in any country. That is assuming he is caught. I can almost guarantee he will be if he is telling you. You do anything like that you don't want to tell anybody. Also if he does it and they found out you knew about it that is gonna be your ass to because you will be an accessory to the crime.

Let me make sure I have this straight. You are friends with the guy that is OWED the money. He wants to destroy the pub of the guy that owes him money. Assuming this is the correct understanding I have then I will tell you this.
I know nothing of British law but I do know they have very similar laws as in the US on a few things.

Willful destruction of another persons property is against the law. If he say burns this place down then that is arson. Arson is usually a very serious charge I know it is in the States. The fact that this person has told you he is going to destroy this place has just included you as an accessory to his crime whether you are present when he does it or not does not matter. The fact that you know about it and the fact that you do not report this to authorities before he does this will make you just as much a part of the crime in the eyes of the law.

As I said I know nothing of the British legal system so I do not know what kind of sentences they hand down over there. Here though that would be charged as a terroristic act, arson, willful destruction of property and so forth. That is pretty hefty sentences over here if convicted.

As for this owing money bit. If there is no legal contract signed then pretty much the guy is probably never going to be able to recoup this money. If there is a legal contract for a loan then he needs to take this guy to court. Here in the states it would be a civil matter not a legal one.

The only advice I have for you is to tell your friend to calm down and not do anything stupid. If he does intend to go through with this then you have to report him to the authorities or you will be liable to if he is caught and he tells the police you knew. As I said just knowing his plan makes you an accessory to the crime. It would probably be less charges then he will face as long as you are not there with him helping him commit it.

It depends on how he tries to destroy it.
Arson = A very long sentence
Driving a lorry through the front of the building = still a hefty sentence and fine probably but not as long as arson
Doing something like smashing windows so he cant open up for a day or 2 - probably an asbo and a small fine

Well you know this guy is going to do something. He says he is going to harm it then it's your duty to keep yourself out of jail. If you want to go to jail then just sit there and do nothing. Personally I'd try and talk this guy out of it. If that don't work then you will have to tell him that since you know he is going to do something that makes you an accessory to the crime and that you are not going to jail for him. He can promise all he wants that if he gets caught he won't say anything about you to but people like that generally will talk just as fast as they get the cuffs on em.
