Hi folks, I have a few websites, but the "main" one - adsense wise - is www.theretroworld.com. It gets about 200 unique visitors per day. I rake in anywhere between 6-10 dollars per day. I've never really done much marketing of the site, but it does well in google for related search terms. The only thing I've done practically is search engine optimise it - make it W3C complian etc. Does anyone know how I can take this site beyond 8-10 dollars per day, or has it reached a natural ceiling? Any tips on how to give it a "boost" of some kind to increase the traffic and take things to the next level? Any good advice very welcome!
yeah, -submit it to directorys -advertise in forums where allowed -use stumbleupon -other social bookmarking sites do the same stuff as many of us talk about and eventually you'll be grasping good amounts of money. Your profit is good towards your traffic. I have the opposite problem. I have 1200 unique visitors a day to a site, but the damn thing only pulls $3 a day. Drives me insane.
Great job on the site, Now I want to hear you soon saying that you are making $20 plus a day on the site, Just keep doing what you are doing and success will follow
No I don't believe so, you can post Sponsored links though. From Google it's self. -May not place misleading labels above Google ad units - for instance, ads may be labeled "Sponsored Links" but not "Favorite Sites"
Wowsers, I never knew that about "useful links" at all - thanks chaps! Will change it today...! Mind you, would Google not consider their own adverts, that they themselves generate, as "Useful"...? P.S. What is stumbleupon?
1000 Visitors and 3 dollars is BAD. Could you please PM me the URL 1000 Visitors and 3 dollars is BAD. Could you please PM me the URL. and rusty, Please optimize the site for adsense. The placement of ads are not just right. If i am not wrong your CTR is less than 5%. Increase the CTR to 12% + and more over you should add a few more pages which are HTML I hope it helps
Nice site! First I think you need to decide if the focus is on selling watches or on adsense - if it is adsense you need an ad above the fold. Maybe people don't always search for 'retro watches' but for '1970's watches' etc as well, so try and get them covered by specific pages, likewise pages dedicated to 'LED watches', 'LCD watches' etc Then you could add articles about all sorts of 'retro' things from lamps to chairs to architects and designers - to get more traffic to the site through long-tale searches I think the site has a lot of potential to grow a lot. Now, do you deliver watches to France.....?
I buy and sell watches to France all the time! Those French have immaculate style What could be improved with the placement of my ads Mr design2host??
I have similar problem with you, I had a few days with traffic spike then it went back to normal. I broke the 10 dollars barrier once but now came back around $ 7 - $10.
200UVs is not a wall for any website. You'll make more money once you build some backlinks. You can get a PR on your site, and make a few extra hundred a month selling backlinks.
Can you explain this a wee bit further... pretend for a moment I am a complete dunderhead. I am! What do you mean by build some backlinks? And what's a PR? You mean Page Rank`? I think my page rank is about 3 or 4.... Thanks!
Directory submissions, or exchanging links with other PR 3-4 websites. Once you hit PR 5, you should be able to sell outgoing links on these sites for quiality money.
Hey rusty, check out my site on my signature, this is what they are talking about, charge a fee to put up some ads. My site is selling ads for 50 cents a weeks for example although I have no traffic so there is no ads yet, but in your case it should be easy to get a few ads up there. Hope this helps dude
What type of positioning are you getting on Google? A couple of more positions up on the results can make a big difference on traffic. Is there positions open for the taking? First thing I would do is remove every single external link on your footer that isn't relevant to watches. Are you linking out to those sites for a reason? Any links on your site that's not directly related to watches, remove them. They serve no purpose to your visitors and Google knows it. Do NOT get involved with link exchanging and make sure to concentrate on building one way links - to your site. Link your header image back to the domain url http://www.theretroworld.com/ One the footer place links to your info pages such as about us, contact us, and the customer feedback form. You need to fix the link for the feedback, if you don't have it built yet then remove it. Some of the product images are too big for the pages. Its great that you have such detailed pictures but they could be served better. Take this page as an example: http://www.theretroworld.com/kienzlemint.html You've lost the right navbar due to the images. Shrink them down 145x120 as the previous main pages. Still provide the larger images by linking to them directly and setting the links to open in a new window. Write more content. How about a tips page on buying antique watches? I read your disclaimer and it sounds like you are a private collector so you should know a lot about watches? The more relevant information you feed your readers the better return you'll get. If you write content find very relevant pages on other sites and link to them. Make sure its a link that your visitor will value for whatever reason they are on your site. No need to write books, 300-500 words on a page is usually good enough. I wouldn't even consider selling links at the stage. You've lots of room for improvement to drive traffic to that site. Once you do then you can demand a heck of lot more for advertising space. Oh and I agree with everyone else, its a great site and well done so far.
