Breaking into a competitive product

    Hey guys,

    I'd like some tips if possible. I know it's hard to get any info from AW experts, and rightfully so. I'm just trying to figure out how to break into larger markets.

    Right now I have a campaign going that i've had forever, so the QS is really good, however it's always a struggle to create even small campaigns. QS is always shaky, impressions are wacky, and the campaign ends up dying.

    What is a good way to break in new campaigns? My guess would be to create the campaign, and put the CPC at a rate higher than what i'd like to pay, but this way it'll get impressions on the first page. Then tweak the landing page and ad copy until my QS increases. After that, slowly lower the CPC?

    If that is the way, does it also work with even larger campaigns?

    I'm just wondering because it seems like i'd be operating at a loss for a few weeks until I fine tuned my campaign, but if that's the right way, it's something i'd be willing to do. Thanks!

    You have the right idea! Increasing the CPC to begin with will also improve your CTR which will in turn assist improving the Quality Score over time. As you said, you can then gradually lower the CPC while retaining the same positions that you originally had with the initial bid price.

    It is also a good practice to have 3-4 ad variations from the beginning, review their results after 5 days, remove the two lowest performing ads and replace them to try to beat the other two. Then repeat this process every 5 days. This will allow you to have to most optimised ads you can obtain, but always take into consideration that there is always room for improvement which is why to process needs to be continued.
