I was just relistening one of shoemoney's shows... great work btw I don't think any other show has inspired me more... anyway something bugs me with one thing Jeremy said...

basic idea being... you build a site you cover a few areas of interest around the topic.. one of them might take off more then others... now here Jeremy says to split the blog into two.... now here is what I'm struggling with if you think about it why would you want to do that? yes it's good to have a blog very focused but think about all the work you have done promoting your first blog... now you have to split your efforts and you don't get any love from you old backlinks and traffic and your readership community... wouldn't it be better to keep the blog together?

    your thoughts?

You don't have to branch out:

    Blog A

    Blog B Blog C

    Why not do:

    Blog A

    Blog A Blog B

Then when they gain lots of power, link from both to Blog C, which is a more broad blog that covers what Blog A and B cover. Then link from ABC to...

lol could you clarify a bit? What shoe was talking about is breaking out a section that's popular on your blog into a new blog...

There may be more opportunity to expand the revenue if you split the popular section into a new blog/site.

Yes- there would be additional work involved but if done right you can build more revenue.

Be careful with interlinking sites that you own. You don't want the lot to get toasted.

the problem with more sites is that it takes longer (and more expensive) to get links to them all. I always think building a big site, instead of many little sites, as long as its logical.

For instance, if you are doing an entertainment site, I think that having categories about TV, movies, radio etc, is far better than a tv website, a movie website, etc.

But if you decide to add a category about knitting, I'd probably make that into a new site.

If you have blog A which contains a very good section, you could take out that section and make blog B...then you advertise blog B on Blog A or do a temporary redirect, and before long you have two blogs that get good traffic...my thoughts anyway...

I agree with d16, that makes the most sense at least.
