What brings more visitors and feed subscribers? A blog hosted on your domain (www.yourdomain.com/blog) or a blog hosted on free hosts (wordpress, blogspot)? I have an online video website and I'm thinking on build a blog about news and statistics related to online videos, and occasionally I'll make some links to videos at the platform. What do you prefer? Subscribe to a blog hosted at (for eg) adobe.com or take feeds from a blog hosted at blogspot that talks about adobe products? tks!
The search engine loves the keywords that are there in the domain nmae itself. They go crazy when they see that teh keyword put into google is there in the domain name , then they would rank that domain first over every other domain.
Yeah, you don't want to change later on down the road. We're talking about a small $7.16 investment here. The idea behind it is that right out of the gate you will want to market your blog as well as you can. Even if you don't, those who come across it, read it, and link back to it is how the site will gain more visitors. You certainly want to avoid losing backlinks later on, or having potential visitors that are unable to find your blog if you change the URL of it. I'm find with a domain.com/blog domain name. I would make sure that my main site was always tied to it and relative so that I never had to change it though. If it is going to be all over the place and about other things, I would have it on a whole different web hosting account and give it a primary domain name (www.domain.com). I would personally stray away from using blogger/blogspot/wordpress blogging sites.
It really depends on how long your project is. If it's just a "short term" thing then a non-hosted blog (Blogger.com, Wordpress.com, etc.) is probably better, but if you're in it for the long run a hosted blog on your own server with you own domain would be better, plus it looks more professional.
Thanks everyone. Still, is it better to have a blog hosted at www.mycompany.com/blog or www.myblog.com? Which one will bring me more visitors? Do you have any experience to share or a link where I could see more about it and convince my boss?
Depends on your choice. If you want to focus on your blog then go for myblog.com and if you only want to post news about your site and keep your visitors updated then go for mycompany.com/blog
