Hi Ninja Noodles. You are a very busy person with all your projects and business. I had a look at your forum today. My Thoughts Logo I know your going for a minimalist theme but I do think that the logo could use a little vector work to remove the pixelization happening around the edges. I would also recommend having a little fun with a text only logo... by using shadows or something unique to your site... Forum Template I like the layout, colors and navigation of your template. The only thing I found a little off was when I viewed your site in 800X600. What happened was that the discussion areas seemed to pop out of the template area. Please see image below: Content Your site has excellent information that is very useful to its visitors. I like that you haven't over used categories and you haven't tried to fit everything into one forum. I like the fact that you are very active with your readers. It makes for a more pleasurable forum. Someone posted a nice sale of domain names.... hmmmmmm! Navigation Tips I would suggest adding a registration button with the top right buttons. I would also consider putting a visible link for people to contact you for any problems or link purchases. Conclusion Overall... it is an excellent forum. Just a few minor items to touch up and your rolling. This review was done with 3 browsers (FireFox 2.0.0.9, Internet Explorer 6.02 & Opera 9.24) on Windows XP SP2. I do hope this helps you. Respects, Lhlalyam
Lhlalyam, I always look forward to your reviews. The logo (which is actually just text) as received a lot of commentary both for and against it. I'll play around with a few suggestions and see what I like best. As far as the more visible registration and contact links go, I think this is an excellent idea and I'll get to that too. Also, regarding the issue at 800x600, do you think many users still run this resolution? I try to incorporate backwards compatibility into my designs, however after a certain point, support for various configurations must be dropped. Just as software engineers are dropping support for PHP 4, I think it's time to start designing for 1024x768 and above. What is your opinion on this? Thanks for yet another great post, Peter
Hi Ninja Noodles. I do a lot of house calls for computer repair and still find that a good number of my clients use a screen resolution of 800X600. I do find it unfortunate that they cannot view a good number of sites properly due to this issue. It is something to consider... but I think with your market... mainly scriptors and programmers.... they would be viewing your site at the level you had mentioned... thinking all this as I am typing... Just a little extra thought on the matter... Lhlalyam
Good point about my target audience. Anyway, for now I've remade the "logo" into an image. Do you think any effects (shadow, bevel, etc.) would make it look out of place? Thanks, Peter
Hi Ninja Noodles (Peter). I think what you have done to the logo text is perfect. It certainly makes it look better by removing the pixelization that was happening. I don't think anything else needs to be done to it. Cheers! Lhlalyam
I think that you achieved that minimalist look you were going for with flying colors - maybe you could add some colors or a design or something.
I think you should change the color of your forum, Gray is not a very nice color, I think you should also create a better header for the forum.
For those of you who think it's too colorless, which elements would you suggest I add color to? Thanks, Peter
you should add more yellow, like in your logo, and you should use and web 2.0 effect in the logo, overall,is nice
Thanks, wozr.com. I added some features that only display to unregistered members (welcome message and registration link), and a contact form. I also tweaked with the code a bit and I think I've got the whole site valid by W3C standards.
