Brand new to Wordpress - what are the first few plugins I should get?

Just starting my blog and would love any advice about good plugins to start with. Thanks!

I would also suggest to use some SEO plugins for better SEO of your site.

 

Go to the WP website and you will see a lot of plugin's there. One that I sugest is SEO all in one.

I use and recommend Akismet is for spam control, Google sitemaps, Quick Stats, SEO Title Tag, Subscribe me, Sociable and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

On a side note, I'd also recommend installing MyBlogLog as one of your widgets.

Is there a Plugin to change the number of search results shown, as it uses the Post Number of Entries?

You probably need a nice gallery to show photos. That always give a website a nice look and makes people want to see your site more. The best slideshow plugin is slideshowplugin.com Check it out they have a special now!

 

I have list the most important plugins here, basically you don't need too much plugins as they can slow down your site. Install plugins which you really think it's important, but akismet, all in seo pack and google xml generators are the most important and must have plugins.
