So yeah, not huge success but pretty cool anyway:

I set up my first website, wrote 2 pages, spent a couple days getting links
so it would show up in google, then wrote an ezine article and submitted it to about 6 article directories

couple of days later, I get my first 2 unique visitors!
And, the first visitor clicked on an adsense ad!

the first visitor came from a link in one of the article directories, and the second one actually came from organic search in google, looking at my statcounter info, he searched an Extremely longtail keyword phrase, in quotations.

I'm talking seriously longtail, there are literally 9 results in google for the phrase, and I'm ranked at #8 Lol

so, am I on the right track? :p

when you start a new website how long does it generally take to get your first organic visitor?
and hey, if I can get 2 without ranking for Any of my target phrases, wouldn't that mean eventually I'll get a lot more traffic?

Good work and a great start. You just have to keep it going. It's going to be while yet before you start making money. But be inspired with every success and you'll go a long way.

Consider yourself lucky to get one click from just two visitors.

Lol yeah, when I checked adsense it had 1 impression and 1 click, I even took a screenshot of it to look back on if I ever start making some money from this. 100% CTR is pretty funny =)

it was on the image ad too, which I found pretty surprising.

Come on, that's not very helpful now is it?

Anyway back onto the subject, good job hehe! :D As sultanofseo said you are on the right track but the real challenge starts now. You should consider doing the following:

    • Add quality content on a regular basis with good linking across previous articles if appropriate. For example if you're talking about how to correctly train a dog and you've previously written an article about dog treats, you could link to it when you talk about rewarding your dog if he does the correct thing etc...
    • Work on getting more backlinks from relevant websites. This can be done in loads of different ways - posting on related forums with a link in your signature, link exchanges, submission to online directories, submission of articles (as you have already done), purchasing links/ads on other websites. When submitting to directories or buying links, try to vary your anchor text slightly.
    • Onsite SEO - Try to focus each article you write on a certain keyphrase so that you can be more competitive. You should put it in the URL, headers, title tags, alt tags etc... This is obviously within reason, i.e. don't keyword stuff your article because that will have negative consequences. If you read your article and it doesn't read naturally, then you're stuffing it! ;)
    • AdSense optimization - Placement and color scheme of the AdSense ads is essential to getting a good CTR (click through rate) and maximizing your income. Try using A/B testing to improve performance. If you're interested I wrote a few articles on AdSense optimization a while back which can be found in my sig. Also take a look at the image I posted below this list.

Anyway that's about it off the top of my head. I'm sure I've missed some points but that is just a quick list to get you goin :)

Oh and the AdSense "heat map" from Google, the darker the orange is the more visible it is to the visitor:

Congratulation for your good start, but don´t get cocky. There is lots of work to do.
