I'm a law student and have a full time summer job, but I'm free in the evenings and I'd love to be able to earn a little extra cash. Although I understand the concepts of affiliate marketing and adsense programs, I dont know where to start. I don't know if I should give adsense a shot first or affiliate marketing, or where to begin for either. To be clear, I don't operate any websites and I have no affiliate relationships. I have no programming experience. I don't know where to start to build my own website(s), host them, perform SEO on the sites, what affiliate programs are reputable or how to effectively target ads. I have $400 to invest and about 3 hrs/day to devote to the project(s). Can someone point me in the right direction, or recommend a book or a guide to get me started?
Hi, First you need to subscribe to an affiliate program where you can get products to promote. If you don't have traffic of your own, you need to contact publishers and use your selling talent to convince them running your ads.
For hosting I would go with Godaddy or Hostgator. Get a Wordpress hosting package and start a Wordpress blog. You need to research keywords for your niche, find ones that are high traffic and low competition. For monetization use Clickbank and Adsense. SEO is pretty straightforward, just build backlinks slowly and from a variety of sources (articles, social bookmarking, blog comments etc.) Oh and you need to choose a niche that has "hungry" buyers, for example a niche where people have urgent problems that need solved right away such as weight loss, or mental health, or make money online etc. You can use the Google keyword tool to research keywords. Try to focus your homepage of your blog around 1-3 keywords/phrases. I know this isn't a thorough walkthrough and I probably sound pretty a.d.d. lol, but I hope it helps some. Good luck!
500 visitors a day for a site is unrealistic for a starting marketer, as you would probably have to find keywords drawing 75,000 searches a month, it's very difficult to rank for terms that high in demand. Maybe getting 50 visitors a day each across 10 minisites would be more doable. Then you could more easily use the sites to promote both adsense and an affiliate program.
You could try video marketing and cpa for start and then move on from there.From video sites you get your traffic fast if your video/niche is good
I second what ninjamtit1 said - get wordpress.org installed on your own hosting account. This should run you less than $5 a month, plus the domain name. WordPress is relatively easy to learn for a newbie, especially compared with some of the alternatives. I wouldn't recommend putting all your eggs in the AdSense basket, but find a variety of networks/merchants to work with, depending on the niche you choose. Just start blogging with blogger or other free hosting sites with your favorite topics which you are expert on. Write some quality post and submit the site URL in major search engine. Do social networking and forum posting to get immediate visitors. After 1 month apply on adsense and get approval and then generating your adsense earning. If you want to do affiliate marketing then I will suggest you commission junction where you can earn a lot of money without selling any product.
