I Think it's not good Like dlatua say it will be perfect for adult sites Bad move from icann to support adult sites
just another income generator for icann. it wont block anything. I do not think there will be/can be regulation to force comercial entities into a particular tld stream. any intelligent company (even not so intelligent company) will probably just parallel their site and run both .com and .xxx. If they can even be bothered
Yes, this is true. Now all the porn sites can have their own extension as .xxx for example www.domainname.xxx now pornographic websites can have this special suffix. There are advantages and disadvantages by allowing this domain name extension. Soruce: xxx domain extension got approval
The .XXX extension has had quite a bit of major-media attention this week, so that could help with eventual type-ins of the .xxx extension, but I have my reservations on the search-ability of .xxx - will all search engines crawl .xxx? I fully believe .COM will still rule all that is adult, especially since it will take quite a while to get .xxx rolling.
I love this! In a news article I read, the company that finally got the approval from ICANN had also suggested other TLD's, such as .kids - I don't understand why ICANN is so strict with TLD's - it's been said in this thread already that .xxx domains will be so easy to filter out to block porn content, it makes perfect sense that it would be a registerable domain name. What's really outrageous is that the sole company that will be offering .xxx domains is going to charge $60 per domain, and already has over 100,000 domains reqested for registration!
Good business move for sure, this one will spawn some ridiculous premium names... can't imagine how much sex.xxx will auction for.
look at the history of "sex.whatever" domain names, they went from the upper 6-figures to millions each.
yea but .xxx is not just like .whatever. Of course it will be sold for a nice value, but note more than sex.com.
there could be several long term ramifications Internet carriers could discriminate for and against what they judge as adult content in terms of bandwidth provided depending on the domain extension The .xxx provides an excuse to have search engines or other interests push adult sites off of .com so it's easier to filter content for children If .com gets cleaned up by tough tactics then you just have to switch .xxx on or off, maybe pay more to get .xxx websites There are going to be ideas and plans of some sort attempted for sure, the situation is too inviting
Who is this sole domain registrar that's in charge of .xxx domains? I've searched high and low and cannot find them. Does anyone think this could be a new internet goldrush?
Not sure about that. Porn is the highest grossing industry on the Internet, it's not as if it's just a misc industry.
