Hi The site I work for has had their website for 5+ years and is registered as a .com. Recently I found that an affiliate of the site has registered a .org with the same domain name, and 95% of the same content! What can I do about this? Thanks!
Shaan_I, its really a question of asserting prior rights. So much easier if you have a trade mark or similar intellectual property.
our site is a trademark, and also has intellectual property. sorry i'm kind of a n00b with legal stuff i just want to know what I can do, because i've just found out there's actually more than one site doing the same thing!
Shaan_I, domains are generally issued on a first come, first served basis. However, if you can establish prior rights and demonstrate that the usurper is acting in bad faith you stand a good chance of ejecting the new arrival. The copying of content is another matter.
Why not tell your boss about it instead? Then let his lawyers deal with it. If he doesn't have any, it's time to get one who specializes in these things.
