OK, let's say that your brand new website is finally online. Assume that it has fine design and that it is relatively well developed. So an average website with around 40 pages for start. Pick any niche you want, but let say it's a wedding planning website. Now, first seven days - what steps you're going to take to promote your website? Feel free to share details with us. My idea is to every few days we start talking about promotion idea for week to come. Let's go, first week ideas!
No one? Eh, I'll break the ice then, hope you guys will share your ideas too. Before anything else, I would create a sitemap and let google, yahoo and bing knows about it. Google analytics account and Google webmaster tools will be setup. For start, I would write an post on twitter, digg, stumbleupon and delicious, all linking to my homepage. Also, my profile page on this and other forums I'm visiting will be updated with link to homepage of the new website. - 2. and 3. day My goal will be to get some more backlinks. Article directories and website directories are most important in my opinion. Check out this nice free article directory. Google search for "best article directories" and "best website directories" will reveal more quality site for gaining backlinks. Of course, check out dir.yahoo.com and gmoz.org. - 4.day Again, backlinks. Friends can help you building backlinks faster. Ask your friends to share an link to your homepage on facebook, twitter and other social networks. It would be a good idea to read this post: http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/social-bookmarking-websites - there you will find list of most important social networks. - Day 5, 6 and 7 I would now start promoting other pages of my website. Finding forums and blogs related to my website will be good idea. So, find as many as you can and post links back to some interested page of your website. I suggest to find "what's hot" by using digg, and then to share links to your pages related to the hot topics. I would focus on getting more friends on social bookmarks website by commenting other peoples posts and start following them. backpage, craigslist. Make sure you don't overdo it on backpage, they will strip off your URL if you post too many posts. Both of those sites are crawled by Goolge hourly. With backpage a link in the ad will be enough, with craigslist put the link in the titles of your posts as well.
