I like Google and don't mind using their services, no matter that they collect users data, if it is to serve me better and more relevant search results. And the ads in the search results or emails are there anyway. Isn't it better that Google scans them and serves you more relevant ones? So I don't have anything to complain about. If I am banned from adSense or search results, I would have a reason to boycot them, but I don't have. And about the confidental information, Google will be the only company that will refuse to give it to anybody.

If you do not like Google there are a lot of alternatives. For a list of other search engines that are not just the big four (Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live, Ask) check out Alt Search Engines. You may find something you like better....:)

The reasons are good, but who is brave to fight against G. I suppose millions of internet users should boycott Google to hurt the Google.

Google is not a monopoly at most an oligopoly but not a monopoly.
Yes google bought double click but probally not to sell the stats to third parties but to improve their own company. While Im not going to boycott google because 80% of my income comes from them, I do have a problem with their treatment to smaller site owners.

the issues raised have some weight, but I don't think the problems lies with google alone. It is with the regulators (FCC,..)

If yahoo and msn can't keep up with google it's their bad. I'm guessing you're mad because maybe your sites don't rank well in google. That might not be it, but its my experience that anti-google peeps usually hate google because they can't master their algos. Boo-Hoo for you buddy. Get a life and stop player hating the big dogs.

How many times have people accused me of this in the thread. My only response to this at this point is read my previous posts in this thread. I don't feel like repeating myself for the 4th time just because you refuse to catch up with the conversation.

Google is easy but not easier because it takes work to get on Google it takes none to get on yahoo. Any dummy can rank on yahoo if they are good spammers :p

As a huge fan of Google, I'd have to say no. I regularly use Google Earth, a great program which they give out for free. I use the site for any searches I have to make, it comes up quickly, runs the search quickly, with minimal advertisements; sure a few links here and there, but that's the internet nowadays. They don't have image ads like Yahoo search does and their site is very neat. Sorry bud you don't have me convinced, sticking to Google.

I can't rank any of my sites that well on Yahoo. All my search engine traffic comes from Google. I'm very serious when I say this: Please PM me a few of your sites. I would love to see how to spam in order to get into Yahoo. If it really is that easy I should be in the top ten in no time.

Your guess is way off dude

I agree that a lot of people whine that they don't rank well in Google but jquindlen has clearly stated this is not why he wants to boycott Google. I seriously doubt anyone would go through the trouble to start a thread like this over rankings.

Personally, I can't stand Google. My sites rank well and Google gives me traffic BUT I don't like being told I can't sell links of my sites.

I buy links, and I sell links too. But i completely agree with googles move to clamp down on it, if they only take natural linking into account then they are going to get far more quality sites at the top of searches rather than the spammy rubbish that have managed to buy a few hundred links.

Ok, you do bring up a good point. The spam sites need to go. I do agree that paid links on irrelevant sites should not count as backlinks. However, I never buy or sell links that are irrelevant and I see nothing wrong with selling links to relevant sites. Additionally, it is not possible for Google to accurately judge in every case whether or not links are being paid for or sold on a site.

I agree that Google is becoming a monopoly (if it isn't one right now), but it's hard NOT to use it. I mean, they're services are unparalleled. Gmail was the first email service to introduce a large sized inbox, and quick search of mail. google earth. . . enough said. their homepage looks great. no ads, no images, etc. just a search bar

it'll be hard to completely boycott Google

You've got some good points. I still love google, however I'm sometimes critical too. Some of the points you mentionned are absolutely true; others are rather "unstable" arguments (ex.: gmail emails lost: that could happen with any mail providing site. Even my ISP once had an issue for 2 days.)

Though, like I said, you also mentionned strong points, which are worth at a green rep ;)

This is called the free market system, The above boycott rant borders on socialist, where there abuses they should be pursued by each country's regulatory agency.

Its not google's fault that people prefer them to Yahoo (Yahoo has been run over and is choking on the fumes) I don't believe in stifling innovation and competition due to someone being jealous.

Exactly, and in a free market we should be allowed to buy links where we like. What do you think all those millions of adsense ads are? Paid links, but they're allowed because they make Google money. Hypocracy at it's best.

I for one turned my back on Google months ago and began targeting other SE's. It was a struggle to begin with but they now provide 50% of my traffic as against 10% a few months ago.

I will not be dictated to as to what I can and can't do with my own web sites. Google pushes itself as a search engine but acts more like an internet censor. It doesn't censor pron or drug sites though. Oh no. They earn Google WAY too much money for that.
