I dont think I want to or can boycott Google. I do like some things about how they do business and the openness like Webmaster tools. But I dont use it for everything. It does have a tendency to crush other companies by offering everything free, showing ads, and hoping to make it back in the future sometime.

It is becoming the Microsoft of the internet, They went public about 20 months ago. I want them to go back to promoting the internet and other companies greatness not just being a category killer in anything it sees interesting.

Your value in doing research is very poor. That is perhaps one of your most inaccurate statements. Gmail is the most reliable and secure mail program there is, anyone who says different has never used it. As for spyware it is covered in their privacy policy what they do to provide ads. IF THAT BOTHERS YOU USE SOMEONE ELSE.

1.) They provide the best results... don't tell me I need to re-try MSN and Yahoo. Use all 3 all the time as I am a Search Engine Positioning specialist and I know for a fact that Google tops the list by leaps and bounds. (MSN is doing much better however)

Any webmaster who comes up with a doc like this should be ignored, a webmaster is a biased party who is likely to hate Google because they don't rank everywhere they think they should. The ones who should be asked are the users/searchers and the data is in, the searchers are pleased.

Wait, my value in doing research is poor, and then you provide no evidence to back up your position? Ha ha, great logic. Maybe you should do your research, as Gmail is losing peoples emails, losing people's attachments, until recently your contact list could be easily stolen, had long periods of service outages, and problems sending out going mail.

But OK, just because I say GMail is not the "most reliable and secure mail program there is" means I wasn't part of the beta test back in 2004 and have used GMail on a daily basis until about 3 months ago? Seriously, what kind of statement is that? :D Once again your logic is infallible.

I agree though, their spyware ad system is covered in their TOS, and you know what. It does bother me, AND THAT'S WHY I USE SOMETHING ELSE. ;) And most spyware vendor's include their spying policies in their TOS as well.

Visio, it's really pointless to argue this, because it boils down to opinion. I know you're some high and mighty ultra super "Search Engine Positioning specialist" and everything  but understand that I too am a grand pontiff zealtor Search Engine positioning voodoo lord, and in my opinion Yahoo provides search results that are equal to, and often superior to Google's results. This wasn't the case, in my opinion, a few years ago, but after trying Yahoo for a week for all my searches (except image searches, Live's image search feature blows Google and Yahoo!'s out of the water) I found that Google's algorithm no longer provided better results. I've stuck with Yahoo! since then because in my opinion they provide equal to, or superior results.

The key here is that I have an opinion, and so do you. We can argue this all day but there's no point arguing something that in the end boils down to opinion.

Any webmaster who comes up with a blanket defense of a company like this should be ignored, a webmaster is a biased party who is likely to hate Yahoo because they don't rank everywhere they think they should.

Ha ha. Everyone's biased, but your logic never ceases to amaze me. I rank very highly in Google, Yahoo, and MSN because I use good SEO. If I was angry about my position in a search engine, it would be juvenile to blame the search engines, and also a waste of effort. If I was angry about my position in a search engine, the only person to be angry at would be me. And instead of writing some long article about banning that search engine, I think the clearer thing to do would be to simply work on my SEO so that I would rank better. Luckily I have no issues with ranking as I understand SEO well enough to beat my competition.

I like how you make these claims through huge jumps in logic with absolutely no evidence though. Let me clarify a few things people seem to assume:
    1) I was never banned from any Google services
    2) I rank well in all the major search engines
    3) I was your typical Google fanboi for the last 5 years
    4) I was making several hundred dollars a month through AdSense when I boycotted them

If you want to know why I am pissed off at Google, read my original post. Is it so hard to believe that I am angry at a company for amassing the largest pool of data of internet statistics, while the company has the worst rating for privacy? Is it so hard to believe that I am angry that Matt Cutts and Google are forbidding me selling links on sites I own and have worked hard on? Is it so hard to believe that I am angry about I company that I once loved turning into a huge spyware and ad company? To add insult to injury, this is a company that threw around their "Do no evil" policy like they were a company of saints. I was fooled, and now that I see that they are wolves in sheep clothing, is it so hard to believe that I want to stop their gradual monopolization of the search engine market? Is it so hard to believe I want choice? The last thing I'll say is that the free market chose Google, they really did. Yahoo and MSN sucked really bad for awhile, and Google didn't. However, in the last few years Google may have violated anti-trust laws, to insure that the market doesn't have the ability to choose their search provider, and that is the reason their under fire for anti-trust regulations by the FTC.

Wow! I am a ultra super "Search Engine Positioning specialist" and a voodoo god... not sure how that compares but i'll accept that as a complement :p

I could care less what the news says to be totally honest... have you lost any of your email? Have you had trouble sending any email? Me neither, NEVER had any trouble YET even my favorite email program Thunderbird has trouble sometimes. I have yet to see anything to complain about in the Gmail. But if I do I will send them a note, they almost always listen.

We agree on one thing, MSN image search is the best as far as I am concerned, I love the way it is setup and everything.

The rest... you have got to be kidding me. hahahahaha... see I am laughing:D

Seriously dude Yahoos algo is better? Their results are better? It is the biggest spam ridden engine out there and the easiest to get ranked on. I can rank any site for any term on yahoo in no time and with very little effort. Yahoo accepts low quality trash links as though they were quality.

So basically what your telling me is that over 80% of the world who uses Google as their favorite search engine are all just wrong?

I hardly ever do a search on Google that doesn't return me what I want within the first page. I hardly ever find what I want on yahoo... yahoo also ranks newbs for seo terms, hosting terms... newbs who have terrible hosting and who don't know seo rank for industry terms, you never see that in Google.

And BTW as for privacy hum bug. Yahoo is the biggest privacy infringer out there, not only did they leak all their users data to the government but they also spy on your activity. Google DENIED the government access to YOUR data. Who is the privacy thief? Get your facts straight.

What Jquindlen is saying is true

Which search engine is better IS a matter of opinion. You like Google and cannot ever find anything on Yahoo. Ok, fine.

I use Yahoo everyday and have for 10 years. I do a quick search, instantly find what I need, and move on. Yahoo works for me better than Google.

As far as ranking in Yahoo, you have to be kidding. Ranking in Google is sooo much easier. If you don't believe me, look at the Yahoo forum. Every other post is "How Do I Rank In Yahoo?", "My Site Ranks In Google, But Not Yahoo", Etc..

Unfortunately, the only people that seem to want people to boycott Google are ones taht have had their adsense account inactivated for whatever reason or are just not getting decent traffic from them. Usually, its the people that have some sort of agenda. Other than that, I think you will find most people say good things about them because they have changed the way we live our daily lives in that we use them for something or other. Granted, if it wasn't Google, it will probably have been some other company, but the fact of the matter is it is them.
