I like google and sometimes things can be frustrating but over all there the best. My theory when you don't like something don't use it or do something about it and change it.
While I don't think you can make any direct changes to Google, I feel that if enough people start to SEO for the other search engines, and start using the API's and alternative ad networks, that most of the same functionality will still be had for the end users. Google rank is not all that hard to come by if you place content first, so focusing on pulling in say Yahoo traffic, then that could theoretically be better for a site, though may be a lot of work. So if enough people start using things other then Google, it can certainly have a massive indirect effect on how Google functions. As it stands though, Google is the BIGGEST, so therefore in many ways, the best. That means as long as it's working as well as it does getting others to join in boycotting them will prove rather futile. Though, if you do have reservation against the Big G, then by all means focus on alternatives. You should not see that much of a difference, especially as if you are SEOing for another popular network, the competition is less so you should see a fair return on the time involved. Just remember, Content is King, and google can still very much work FOR you, even if you are not working for them. *shrug* I personally support the switch, though at this point am not ready to make the jump myself...
lol nice try but NO. That just won't happen as much as I want it to happen. Even if everyone in this forum boycotted google for a week it still would not make much of a difference, if any difference at all.
I welcome this initiative to Boycott the Google, especially because Google becomes a monopolist in the Internet market. What does its monopolistic policy bring to internet users? 1. more useful links are filtered from the SERPs; 2. the market has no serious alternatives to Google; 3. Google makes money on users' trust; 4. Google "eats" small search engines one by one; 5. Google impeades advanced search technologies development; 6. Google exists in any area of internet (search, ads, e-mails, docs, etc) and noone tries to compete with it seriousely; 7. The market loses its competitiveness; ...... the list can be continued to more statements. It seems that Google becomes a "Devil" for the internet future while its slogan is "Don't be a Devil".
No reason to boycott Google, it won't make you any happy and definitely won't bring you abundance and wealth if you hate em. take it easy and ride with the trend! cheers
I agree with this, but he should reword some points, he is making it out as if Google owns a permit on Search Engines.
I don't agree, coz by boycotting the Google we stand against Google's policy to earn money from everything on inet and its monopolistic activity. It's all for the future of the web.
At the moment google is good, however as it gains more power I am not sure it will be as good. (They will go power crazy) who knows they may start charging for their services that they offer for free at the moment. Also the way they can destroy a site by just giving them a pr 0. And that is not really fair. However they are still the best and as long as they are the best they will have the power to do whatever they want.
I understand most of your rant, but the part where you suggest how to boycott google is just hilarious. Yahoo and Microsoft are better alternatives? Yea OK.
Yahoo and Live are not better alternatives to Google, and I think that in near future there will be no serious competitor for Google, so that it is necessary to start thinking of possible alternatives globally - starting from search technologies advancement from now to prevent Google's power negative influence on the internet.
Today you are happy, but what will be your position if Google - as a monopolist start charge from you for its applications and services usage? Think deeply, and you'll understand that the slogan "Boycott Google" means prevent internet from becoming a monopolistic market.
They already are, and I respect it. I am a businessman, any company with a plan like that got my respect.
without google, I have a pay a lot of money for adversting my business. this is a funny thread. Finally if all of us stop using Google, some other search engine will become #1 instead.
