I'm 20 pages up again. I'm at the top of the rollercoaster and I can feel my stomach rising as it prepares for the fall... How are your SERPs today VS?
Rumor has it that http://64.233.167.104/ is currently the data center with the most "future relevant" database.
I can confirm this. Yesterday it was just those 3-4 data centers which begin with the number 7. Now more are showing the new results. Traffic is insane ;-) Ranking six for "Free Ringtones".. amongst many other terms. The first portion of the Bourbon update screwed me.. now rankings are better than they ever were before.
If that is the final results, I will not be ---totally--- upset. Based upon today's API rankings, I got hosed big time. Thing is, is that I dropped for lots of what I'd call non-competitive keywords (patriotic birdhouses, whimsical birdhouses..crap like that). You almost have to assume that this is in major flux still. If a major site linking to you is in the same situation, then obviously, yours may be affected as well. I believe (hope, pray, wish - insert verb here) that it'll come back in a few days.
Ugh. Please tell me you are not talking about this site: http://www.shariahprogram.ca/odp/free-ringtones.shtml (#6 on that data center for free ringtones). This is the type of site that should never appear in the google index. Its not even unique content. Its a dmoz listing with adsense on top.
Ok, I experienced very odd SERP movements for ONE of my sites. It has ranked well since 2001 on Yahoo its niche and then in Google. There is very little movement in these terms. It is Yahoo, Dmoz listed has natural bls - many years old, some new bls and now some coop - spread across the site. My main niche keyword dropped from 3 to 10, below sites that are rarely updated, promoted etc. Almost ALL other keywords (except a few) have disappeared or dropped hundreds of places. - A strange mix. From some terms you would think the site is banned, from others it would seem to have just lost some rankings. The rumored dc (http://64.233.167.104) has me with the bad rankings, many other dcs are showing me as ok still. If I had to give an opinion - I would say my whole site has been given a power reduction - like its running on 60% or something... Anyone wanna see a screenshot of 600 reds on the KWT?
No Thanks DA. I'm seeing enough red of my own. Whatever's happening on this update, it's weird. I'm still seeing the IBL update filtering through the DC's. Now there very odd SERPs results - but from various DC's some of which that have the IBL update some which don't. I don't think you can take any decisions based on what you've seen so far - it ain't finished yet
Nope, I have one of those already, but thanks! Nothing like going into mild panic mode at 9am in the morning, right? LOL My main problem isn't necessarily with dropping. I can grasp the fact that I'm not really the #2 site on google for "birdhouses" - I always thought that one was weird ... but the ones that are rising up there are highly questionable IMHO. Some others as well. I'm debating whether or not to change my title tags from: Keyword at My site to Buy Keyword at My site I see lots of sites in the top 10, where the primary keyword(s) is (are) not first position.
The only decision Im taking is that it is losing me money and creating me work. I am waiting, I waited all day to mention it.. I will see what the next week/ few days bring. I am not seeing other sites in the results being affected (other than going up 1 place). Bring GoogleGuy in here so we can all have a few words
I feel your pain . I was down 33% in adsense yesterday. I'm down about 40% today (from normal days). What's odd, is that the retail sales aren't that far off norm.
My dropped terms ARE my retail sales.. my AS is ok - but my AS is the smallest part. Its personal to me, this little site is my little baby, it was a uni project turned commercial. If it doesnt recover then I may have to fight back
DA: that's just it. I'm not seeing mysite drop into oblivion. The ones that are dropping are only dropping to #80 or so. If they dropped into oblivion, then it would be more difficult to recover. From #80 it means that most of what I did still works. Wierdly traffic doesn't yet seem to be affected, but then the new (if they're the correct ones) positions haven't hit many DC's for me yet.
1 of my 2 retail sites dropped. The other sites (my directory and its subdomains) are less important. The one that dropped is the one I've spent the most time on too. Doesn't that just suck? It has about 400-500 pages of unique original content and organized to the point of being anal. The other one is far less traffic, far high conversions, so I'm glad its still there; masks the decline, but my AS revenue will be in the pooper till I figure this mess out. I'm going to focus on minor keywords and see what the deal is. If it is what I think it is, its gonna be a lot of 'splaining to do at google.
From 1 out of 15 mil and now i cant hold 5 out of 7000. I call that oblivion, ban the site. Even stranger, I rank number 1 on google.co.uk for some competitive terms My competitors are NOT affected, nor are my other sites. 3 years of 70% traffic from Google.com to 80% MSN uk today. I have 50% of my traffic left on the site - not the best traffic either. I wonder if fireservices/ govt sites experience this kind of thing and lives get lost ?
Has every keyword on that site taken a hit DA ? That's what's confusing me, I'm taking a hit on some keywords - yet not others. Only one site seems to have been touched at all and yet it still ranks for some keywords, even some of the more competetive ones. Atm, this update doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps by the end of next week something might make a bit more sense.
All have taken a hit to varying degrees. It is almost like a strange rollback. No, none of it makes sense at the moment If you havent it might be worth reading this: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/29720.htm I quite like the theory by this person (helleborine) http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/29782-82-10.htm Seems to fit (ish) so far.
It really doesn't though. I can see the poster's point, but it doesn't apply, at least to my situation. When I syndicate articles, I do not post them on my site. If I write on article on - lets say, widgets. I do 3 of them. 1 for me, 1 for my main site, and 1 for general distribution. All unique.
