The only way Yahoo or MSN will know your Bounce Rate is if you are using their toolbars.

The toolbar is not the only way, every once in a while, like I don't know, one out of 10 000 queries, the result page will be with redirect urls rather than direct urls for all sites in the result page, that's how they can get metrics on individual sites without having their tracking tool installed on the target site or a toolbar on the user's system.

I don't see any reason why Bounce rates can really affect SERPs. Bounce rates is just a statistic, it shouldn't affect our rankings.

This statistic can be very useful in improving search engine's results by measuring the bounce rates for various web pages for different search queries. If you analyse that one page get's near 100% bounce rate and another is way below 50% for the same search query, you know that the one with the lowest bounce rate is more likely to answer the search query, and so you can give points (internally) to this page for this specific query.
That's using users behavior to improve search results.

Actually bounce rate of a site (not PPC) can affect your site based on user experience/participation, but the exact mathematical part of the over all algorithm is not known, because google still keeps many things "locked up" or secret.

However, the lesson is to create a good user experience. Google measures many things to constantly refine the experience for the user. If you can please the user - you can please google. Google creates its approach to search based on what a person would be pleased with, by natural human behavior. They can't get it perfect, because it is a machine, but they come closer than most realize.

Some excellent thoughts on why bounce rate could be misused and hence the reason for google not considering it for ranking.

Higher bounce rates are anyways detrimental to your monetizing efforts as your offers are not likely to get noticed in a very short span of time, your visitors spend on your site. :(

Keep your bounce rate below 30%-40%. And compare your values on Google Analytics which examines all sites within your niche. This will help figuring out if you above the average / expected.

Yeah because if bounce rate is higher so it means people are coming on your website but they are not staying there they just come and then go.

Yes it is.. as it shows visitor didn't find correct information on your website, he was looking for. Google consider this as a wrong keyword optimization for your website.
