If a user enters my site and clicks on an external link, does this count as a bounce?

Or is a bounce when the user clicks back in the browser?

    thanks.

A bounce is when some one clicks back within the first 2 seconds or does not click onto another page within your website. If some one clicks into your website then clicks on to an external this could cause you to see it as a bounce as you’re tracking code will not appear on the external URL so can not be tracked.

This is a common thing with affiliate websites so Google brought in a simple way to track exit clicks

This help page will explain it in more detail: http://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55527

If the visitor doesn't stay on your site for more that 2 seconds, it counts as a bounce rate calculation.
