What's a good bounce rate for a forum?

I've launched mine a month ago and my bounce rate varies from 3% to 10%

The lower your bounce rate the better. But right now, its probably just you and your friends that visit the site, so its hard to measure.

As more people find your site, expect your bounce rate to go up. And then it will level out.

3% is insanely good imho for a forum... keep it up, whatever you are doing!

The fact that its 3-10% would show it to be innacurate in itself.

Some of the general thinking is:

"It is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying"

I would actually say under 10% is near impossible for a forum.

My forum has a bounce rate of 75-80 percent.
My ctr is decent for a forum. So nothing to complain about.
80 percent of my traffic is from search engines.

Its a 5 month forum with 700-800 uniques a day.

I forgot to post my bounce rate in my first post, so here are my forum stats. These are from google Analytics, and are from August 24th - September 23rd.

Bounce rate right now is - 33.17%. A few months ago it was between 28% - 29%
    1,418,727 Pageviews
    11.89 Pages/Visit
    00:13:54 Avg. Time on Site
    119,328 Visits

But - if you want to get down to details, what target audience are you trying to get? I use youtube as my primary source of advertising. The sites you are advertising on, what is your bounce rate for them?

Bounce rate from Youtube - 22.18%
Bounce rate from Google generic search - 53.79%
Bounce rate from MSN - 10.16%
Bounce rate from yahoo - 33.53%

My target audience is youtube, and 87% of the people that visit my site from youtube stay. :)

Ahh..now I understand. You're running a statistics program that's flawed. No wonder you think your bounce rate is so low. Use analytics for more accurate stats.

There ya go..now you know why we didn't believe you. :)

42% is certain more realistic. As for how good that is..it's not terrible. Some sites have 80%. For a forum I think 42% is decent. Most here seem to agree to target under 50% and anything between 20-30% is pretty good. To get below that range with a forum is very very tough. I would like to see what the DP bounce rate is actually come to think of it.

Use the site overlay from Analytics...it's invaluable. Try to find the links people want on your site and place them top fold. Failed navigational areas should be placed lower on the page if not removed altogether. I love analytics.
