I have been searching to no avail to find some sort of study or stats on the impact of autoplay music decreasing the visitation time of visitors to a webpage. I was wondering if anyone has done a study or know of something concrete I can point to on this? I have client that has a really high bounce rate and I want them to remove their autoplay music. I just wanted something to back this recommendation up with when I approach them with it. Thanks
I can not provide you with hard and fast numbers but I can tell you my personal experience and tastes. I for one hate any site that forces any sort of media on me without my initiating the playback. And even worse are the sites that don't allow you any control over the sound. If you start playing audio and don't make the controls available or obvious lose me immediately.
Thanks... yeah I don't know anyone that likes it or doesn't mind it (well except for maybe the deaf). Most of the people that I am talking to barely use the web. So it is hard to convince them that it is such a drawback.
If your client is being very stubborn, convince them to let you A/B test for a while. When they see a lower bounce rate when there's no music, they should be convinced.
