There is many reason to increase bounce rate the main is slow loading time because in fast world no one can wait more than 2 to 5 second and other reason is poor development.
Increasing of bounce rate means the customers are not navigating the website properly this will result to decrease the interest of the customer to your website. Many factor is responsible for increasing the bounce rate of your website.
Surely this cannot be something you can be penalized for by the search engines? I would have thought other factors came first in terms of loading time, content quality etc, let alone backlinks themselves. I tend to find that having a static homepage that is strictly related to your topic/niche dramatically decrease bounce rate IMO. A few pictures also never goes a miss.
